I currently work for Alltel and was offered a job at my local Verizon office. Which company do you think is better to work for?

Alltel offered me a lot more per hour, but VZW's commission structure blows Alltel away.

That is what I heard. What about hours, stability, chance for advancemnt (unless youare happy being a WC). I know if I was going to be making more on commission and be home at a reasonable time and...I would consider!!I can't say for sure because I have not worked for verizon, however The Grass isn't always greener. Sometimes but not always!

Lets start with the new commission scale costing me over $30,000 a year. I never made anything but top payout and the month before WC came I had 131 activations.
Right now I'm feeling a bit frustrated with how things are going for me with alltel. Last month I produced 68 activations, over 1200 in data and over 7000 in accessories in a town of less than 10,000 people and a 4 WC store (which is well more than a town that size should have). I don't know where you're located, but in my district that's unheard of (SE georgia) over 300% quota on everything. I didn't get so much as a pat on the back for it. But I did recieve SOMETHING for it...I got my quotas raised. This is in a store where 2 of 4 people didn't make quota at all. I'll lik...

Hey First...
What store are you in? I'm in the panhandle. I have been very frustrated with them right now. Maybe this is how they plan to get us our $1000 bonus (which ends up $700 after taxes)

I'ld rather not say the specific one right now...but I've worked in 3 different stores and never been under 200% quota in any of them. The problem now is I'm in a store small enough to change quotas off my numbers. The store 40 miles away from us is in a town 4x as big and doesn't have a verizon (which is the only competition in south georgia) and has lower total numbers than our store. We have no greeter, no inv rep, just WCs. What really frustrated me today was looking at the scorecard and seeing all the other stores in the area's quota going DOWN to 18.
And the bonus was up last year on the old commission scale, with the new one they should have room for another $5000 or so to add to it. Bottom line is the new structure (for manag...

Demo what you can, try to get a good read of how much and what they'll use it for and sell it. If they migrate so be it, but try to upsell so if they change plan you cant be downward migrated. If my email's in my profile, feel free.

Although the commision changes are frustrating i believe that everyone is not looking at all angles before they start jabbing away. If you compare our annually salary to all the other top carrier in the us we really dont have much to complain about. As wc's we really have no major responsibilities. We work our 40 to 50 hours hour a week which we do get paid a reasonable hourly for then we go home. I think that it needs to be considered how many other jobs are in your area (especially if your town only has 10,000 people) that without a college degree you could walk in work 40 hours a week and make 40,000 + a year. Alltel turmover rate went high but will go back down the only reason it went high is because they had to many greedy people workin...

I'll admit, I was a bit harsh with that post. It doesn't reflect some of the positive views I have about Alltel and you pretty much hit the nail on the head with saying commission changes are frustrating, which is what it primarily is for me. I do have a pretty good grasp of the new angles (I did break 1200 in new data last month 🙂 ) and broke $3k in commission. Is that bad pay? No, but it's nowhere near what I would have made before. BTW, I was implying Alltel would change this, not return to ashes.

Everyone in the store selling is a double edged sword. While current customers will get more sold to them because all reps have incentive to sell now, new customers are less likely to be sold. The same customer that would walk in an...

Wow. This is crazy what I have read I must say. I am a new part time rep at Alltel as I quit my last carrier after my manager assaulted my girlfriend at work. But that is another story. I made $55,000.00 last year at a no name cell carrier here in charlottesville VA. (nTelos) and all I see is around $30k from most all reps at this company. That is so sad! Guess it is time to start looking around again.

$30k sounds pretty low to me. That's below $1,000 a month in commission. I wouldn't expect any rep worth their salt to make that little. I would say a decent rep should make somewhere in the neighborhood of $38,000-$42,000 with the best still pushing $50,000. I could easily make $50k at current structure and I'm not even in a 1x market. I would expect anyone in an EVDO market to be able to hit $1500 in net data easily, which alone would be enough commission to get you well over $40k a year. However, I wouldn't disagree that many other carriers have potential to make more money. You just have to decide if the money difference is more important than the benefits at alltel (which are good but not unrivaled) and the job you will be happy w...

I totally agree! Any rep that shows up for work awake should be making 35k at a minimum. All of my reps are making over 40k and my top 2 are making over 60k

that's average pay with average commission before taxes ... side-note: a indirect agent VP was trying to convince me to switch to the Business Channel, because he said the pay was a lot higher than normal reps; you don't have to deal with as many brain-dead customers; and you don't have a boss looming over you / make your own hours...

i've never worked for alltel so i can only speak about verizon. we have excellent benefits and a great comission as long as you can sell data and accessories, as well as activations. last 3 months ive hit a 2.o multiplier and brought home a little over 6k each month. to me this is a great company

It sounds like I need to get out of where I work and get into a Alltel retail store. I've been thinking about it because my boss here really stinks. I do all the work for Alltel and maybe make $300 monthly for commission and I make him on average $3000 monthly and this is in a town of only 1000 people. Thanks for all the info.
