I don't even see it listed on Phone scoop, only the VX5200 which is basically a LG 5550 with a 640x480 camera?

Why stick with the low end phones?

I have seen ALLTELL's phone and they look cheap. Why can't ALLTELL get any decent phones like Sprint or Verizon? They use the same network (CDMA) so why not have more variety. All of the phones that Alltell carries have lousy reviews with the only good phones being the ones over $100 and as a college graduate, I can't afford that. Not to mention the battery life is terrible, considering that my phone had 6 (six) hours of talk time.

I'm an ATTWS customer from OKC (and recently moved but keeping the number) and the customer service is a joke, they don't even try to deal with the issues that I am having port the number/account. The only responses I got via email and on the phone, were standard responses without even an attempt to resolv...

Are you even on CDMA or an alltel plan or not? That does make a huge difference. What is wrong with the V262 that has been a good phone or even the V265. Or if you splurge a little the Nokia 6255I is a great phone in my opinion. I will admit alltel does need some more phones but they have quite a few coming out before the end of the year and I believe you have until the end of December to migrate over.

Alltel here in Florida bought the old GTE Wireless network when the PCS licenses opened up and PrimeCo came into play, since merged into Verizon Wireless. GTEWireless sucked at releasing phones fast, so I'm guessing that some of the infrastructure is still in place to take that attitude. Plus, system limitations for software might limit ESN's in their switches. Who knows - I can tell you one thing from talking with Alltel Exec's - locally there service is hands down second to none. They take their time in releasing phones that have proven themselves on their network. I'd rather they do that then willy nilly some new phone onto the network that was just released and not tested. We had the problem with the very first Nokia CDMA phone - w...

You think the Nokia 6255i is better then the Moto V710? And this LG coming out will probably be a midlevel camera phone just like the Audiovox 8910.

Verizon phones can be activated on alltel. But honestly the best performing phone alltel had they just got rid of recently. For reception out here in mid NE the Nokia 3587 was the best phone that you could get period.

Bottom of the page @ https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/ctia_2005 /index.php?p=l2

6255i was an upper end phone they intro both types, keep in mind you will never see the handset selection you get from sprint or Vzw because Alltel wants handsets that work not just bells and whistles so many do not pass testing, over the next few months you will be pleasantly surpised with the handset offerings coming your way, hi and low

I see nothing low end about the phones that are offered. I have a LG 5550 and it is a great phone. Though I am much happier with my so called low end Nokia 3585i, that phone never fails. It is a rare instance that I don't have a signal with this phone. I think to many people have become technology driven. Sometimes less is more. I like the cool technology as much as the next guy but if I had it would probably not use it. I suggest looking hard at your needs compared to your wants when getting a phone. I find most customers don't do this and many find themselves switching back to thier old phones cause the new one is to complex and the extras detract from reception strength.

Lilbum2,

This is one of the best posts I've seen on this forum in a long time! I think many people forget that what they have in their hand is a PHONE. It's supposed to make and receive calls. Anything else is just icing on the cake. I wish I could count how many times a day I hear my reps talking to customers that say they miss their old Startac. Why?? It did what it was supposed to do, place and receive calls.

Here we have ourselves a debate between those who don't like change and want to keep things simple, and those who want to progress into the next technological age of advancement. Cell phones were once merely phones to communicate with. But now they are far more advanced devices. Cell phones are now communication devices either by voice, text or email, as well as cameras, organizers, palms, etc...So we want a phone that does it all and does it all well.

This posting is definitely going to right direction. We once used phones to call for emergencies using less than 100 minutes a month and your phone left the house to go to your car. Now we use at the very least 100 minutes a week and in most cases a day. We take our phones with us everywhere we go. Like wired telephones the old lasted 20 years and the new we are lucky to get through 2 years before we are wanting or needing to change equipment. Remember no other industry discounts product to use their service like the the cellular industry. Believe me phones are at cost being at at least $100. Lets be thankful that we don't have to pay full PRICES!

One thing that I will say for Alltel is they do very extensive testing on the phones that they put on their network. This should be very appreciated as a consumer because they do alot of the backroom work for us as consumers to make sure that we get quality equipment. Other carriers to gone mentioned do not go through this testing on equipment and technology as with last years roll out of walkie talkie communications. Please be patient as good equipment is forth coming with patience.

New LG is a good phone similiar in style and function to V265. Got to admit this has been one of the best threads in a while. Mr RadioActive hit in on the head here in South Florida(Tampa) it is hands down the greatest network and LilBUm is right the old little Nokia's 3585&87 are two of the best phones we have carried second only to the startac but they were notthe most advanced. Hey I had a lady with signal troubles, put here in that 3587 and she actually called to tell me how happy she was and that she had 4 bars and would have anyone buy that phone. Alltel needs more technology but after talking with a tech tonight and no I do not remember any specifics I think by 1st quarter 06 we will all be pleased!!!! Evdo will play a much larger ro...

Hmmm, do I need to get the Nokia 3587, I live in the basement of a house underground and work in the hospital and get little to no signal at all with my Audiovox 8910. I was hoping to get the V710 or 6255i, but which phone will afford me the best for signal in basements and hospitals?

P.S. - No new phone today?

go with the Motorola, I carry both the Motorola v710(personal phone) and the Nokia 6255i(business phone) on my hip and the motorola has out shined the Nokia when it came to reception. Where I would have 4 to 5 bars with the motorola is some places, the nokia will sometimes have 2 to 3.

Why is Alltel listing the Moto V710 as not having a speaker phone when it does? Same as the LG, Audiovox and Nokia.

I just got off the phone with an Alltel Tier 3 Blackberry Data Technical Support person and he informed me that the Treo 650 is being released for Alltel on November 23rd. He told me that this is a for sure date. Just letting everyone know. He also said that in Mid-December there will be an Audiovoxx 6300 PDA phone with Windows OS coming out that will be EV-DO capable and that in Phoenix AZ the Alltel network will be totally EV-DO by March '06
