yea, i hate verizon too. the problem is only sprint and verizon are truly nationwide carriers. US cellular and WWCA arent. alltel isnt either. i think in my opinion, they should just try to establish a nationwide footprint by buying spectrum, but sprint and verizon would beat them out. here is the problem with telecom and in any industry. you are the little guy and you have to grow or else you would be chapter 11.

But even though they are not a national carrier, do you really think of them as small? Put it this way, my co-worker who knows fairly enough about Verizon says they will not sponcer a Nascar driver because its too much money to invest in. Well Alltel has sponcered a driver and last year they advertised to spend about 700 million on towers alone. Well I really wish the best for Alltel and I doubt they give in to Verizon to be bought out by them. Heck when Verizons' roaming agreement with Alltel ended up north, Alltel would not let them get back on meaning Alltel's coverage in maine and up NY is better then Verizon's

verizon doesnt care about those little guys. they can just keep buying up spectrum and building towers. thats not such a big deal. verizon thinks spending on big PR with nascar is bad? wow they must be crazy becuase nextel is doing very well. verizon could always just buy them out.

I dont think it would be wise for alltel to play "hardball" when it comes to roaming agreements. How bad would an alltel "national plan" look without being able to use verizons coverage in the west coast and many other places.I think roaming agreements will stay put,it would be in alltels and verizons best interest to play nice. Also I really doubt Alltel will roll out EV-DO anytime soon,they still dont have 1x coverage in alot of their digital areas,the last time i checked.

Sidebar question: "When" we get EV-DO, will it only make a difference with the speed of web surfing if I have a compatible phone, or is it possible to see a difference on my v710?... not really clear on this EV-DO technology just yet, so please bare with me.. 🤭

you may see a difference with the speed of your phone I believe but your phone wont be able to stream video's. Now that I think about it I will have her look into that for you to get a positive answer.

Thanks ccanady, I appreciate that. I don't really think I need to stream video, but faster web surfing would be cool, but hey...you never know if the phones are sweeter than the v710, I may change my mind. But I love my v710 soooo much... 😁

If you love your 710, have you checked out the EV-DO version of it? The E815? Its sweet and they are beefing up the internal memory from 10mb to 40 mb internal memory and I believe its supposed to be compatible with the 256 mb TF card.
