I live in Salina, KS (Alltel network) and I was wondering when we will start to see Verizon take over?? My contract is up and I would really like to wait until Verizon takes over I think they have alot better choice of phones. I heard rumor that Verizon is going to let Alltel keep the name and just run them is there any through to that?? Thanks!!!!!!!!

They have said repeatedly end of 08. So I would think soon as we only have less then two motnhs left. And no verizon is not going to keep alltel's name. They do however have to keep the network they have to divest and the 2 mill + subscribers they have to give up in a trust separate from VZW.

The deal can't close before Mid Dec.

After that - they will begin the process of melding the two into one. That will take time. Initially, Alltell's non-divested markets will most likely run as a Verizon owned/operated entity until they can make the two into one. No one knows exactly how long that will take.

If like the plan you have now, you'd be better off to lock it in with a new contract now - because they will honor contracts for their duration.

Verizon doesn't have to honor Alltel contracts, that being said, they probably will.

True. They don't HAVE to honor Alltel's contracts. They COULD allow those customers to cancel and waive their ETFs. But...that would just be foolish. A carrier that already offers unlimited voice plans could hardly object to any existing Alltel plan. Not to mention the negative publicity. Wouldn't the other carriers just love to have that to seize upon. Never mind that the 1000 customers which Sprint canceled for calling in to customer service repeatedly each month were costing them significantly more money than they were paying for their plans. Wasn't that a public relations nightmare! So, no, I don't expect Verizon to be foolish enough to push any customers out the door. They will be too busy bending over backwards and kissing th...
