LG 8600 EVDO to "regular" digital signal issue
OK so I have had Alltel for around 2 years with great reception from my old LG 5000 handset. Now just down the road from my house in the second largest town in Michigan and my phone dropped a call. It was low EVDO and dropped instead of switching to a "regular" (for lack of a better word) signal that would have been most likely full. Is this normal or a fluke? I thought the phone would seamlessly switch to "regular" digital before dropping the call. Any questions, thoughts, or comments would be much appreciated. I have 10 or 11 days to switch the phone out yet, but I love the 8600 and I have a razr as my personal phone through another carrier so I REALLY don't want another one. 😕

evdo has nothing to do with voice!!! They are entirely different. EVDO is only for data!

That is good knowledge to have thank you. I thought the EVDO worked for both voice and data. Any ideas on my issue? Just a fluke or is the phone's reception not up to par with my old handset? Overall now my signal isn't as strong as with my old phone (LG 5000).

dunno I have the 8600 and so does the wife and she loves it. I haven't been able to use it as I am in japan. I can't compare it to another phone as this is my first phone with alltel in 7 years. I would say fluke but keep an eye on it. It may be a bad phone!

i have the 8600 and reception is not an issue at all. 99% of the time i have all my bars. im in virginia. out of all the phones i have had from tmo--this is the best on good reception. it might be your phone.

Yeah it might be a fluke because of capacity or something else. Although I don't think Alltel is having capacity issues in Grand Rapids. I would just test it out on the stretch a little more, if it continues then switch it out....
