Sold can mean a lot of things. If it is sold to a cable company or private equity then it will continue as is but expand with more investments into spectrum etc. If it is merged/purchased by Sprint/Verizon/T-Mobile, etc then you will get a plan with a lot more for your money that can be grandfathered in to either of those networks. The question is why wouldn't you stay or sign up with Alltel.

Wow...your www.alltel.com must be different from mine, because the 8600 is no where to be seen.
The U520 is plastered up there though, along with the 245, but no 8600.
