Best iDEN phones for reception

BadFrog

I live on the "fringe" of Nextel service area and my i830 😡 really is horrible with 1 or no bars and lots of dropped calls.

Can somebody direct me to a source that evaluates and "rates" best iDEN phones for reception ? I am not worried about the bells and features .. but I need to do something to get better reception. Thanks in advance.

it might be a good suggestion to move to the cdma side of sprint, you'll get better coverage and more reliability

Thank you for suggestion but, Sprint does not offer service in Black River, Michigan. The only major carrier in the area is Nextel. I use PTT a lot to family living in Flint so changing carriers ends up as a hassle plus a $200 "got u by the gonads fine"... 😈

There is nothing wrong with the iDEN network. It is just as reliable as any CDMA network. Matter of fact in my area, it is the most reliable of any carrier. We just have to give it some time while they transform all their equipment because of 800 mHz rebanding.

I don't have a problem with iDEN network persee. My i830 phone is horrible for reception. I live on the fringe of my service area and drop calls constantly. What I am looking for is a source that can distinguish iDEN models for capability in "reception". I have heard the i760 has excellent reception as well. But, without an exclusive technical measurement, I can't be sure which iDEN phone has superior reception capability in a fringe situation.

the i830 has been known to have reception problems (from what i have heard at least). The i850 would be a good choice. if you dont need the camera however the i760 is the same exact phone and it would save you some money. I currently use the i760 and before that had an i836 and i notice a HUGE difference in reception (for the better).

Yah .. I heard that about the i830 too .. but only after I had it to long to return it. Since I really don't need the camera I think i'll opt to the i760 (being like the i850).

Thanks you (all) for taking the time to comment and help out. I appreciate it ..Joe

No the i830 is horrible and the i760 is horrible also.

A good phone that i have had no problems with are; the 265, the 870, and the 205.

😁 We all agree the i830 stinks 😈 The i265 seems like a real nice phone too .. but I am not to excited over a "bar" phone (unless of course the phone serves up Moosehead Ale) 🤣

I have an i530 and an i730. In places where signal is very low, they both do very well, but the i530 was a little better. They are good because even with no bars, the voice quality stays pretty solid, versus CDMA where below two bars, it deteriorates quite a bit. My friend has an i830 and his doesn't pick up quite as good as my two, so you're not alone in having problems with that model.

Sure it looks pretty and gets a good signal. The only problem is the phone often freezes and reboots itself. Mine did it and 3 other people who have the 850 did the same thing. Avoid this phone at all costs...

Not to change the subject, but how is the phone? Big and bulky, or not bad? Attractive or ugly?

i live in detroit too and when you went to canada did you have native nextel service or you roamed?

and if you did roam you were on Telus mobility's iDen network, i heard if you are in certain spots in windsor, its a "hit-or-miss" thing in some areas you'll roam or you'll have native coverage, this would probably be windsor only.

Say thanks to Telus. I remember somewhat when i went to Canada that i had perfect reception throughout Canada and i noticed that there were way more cell towers then in USA (especially my area). hey, go out to COL you see many more towers out there.
