Two of the five members of the Federal Communications Commission have voted in favor of a controversial proposal to give Nextel Communications Inc. the right to use the cellular airwaves it wants at the price it wants to pay, according to people close to the commission and the industry.
Those people said they expect the deal to get the additional vote it needs to pass as soon as today.

muchdrama said: I'm guessing the two commissioners that voted in favor of Nextel getting the airwaves it wants in the 1900mhz band want to see the inteference stopped immediately, and I tend to agree. I also agree that if, and I say IF, this spectrum is definitely worth more than what Nextel is paying for it, it's bad for American taxpayers. But how are we to know if Verizon is telling the truth? They don't want Nextel to have this spectrum simply because they don't want Nextel too close in their rearview mirror. They don't give a crap about taxpayers or "fairness". They just don't want competition. If this "controversial" decision gets passed and it makes the interference problem go away all the quicker...I'm all for it....
