Hey, i was at a nextel store here in lexington yesterday talking to the rep about the merger. Kentucky is a Nextel Partners, and he said Nextel Partners has 1 year from the merger finalize to decide if they want to join sprint nextel, and my question is. If they dont merge, will we miss out on all the new features or promotions that the new sprint nextel people will get?

good question.

(for disclosure purposes i am a shareholder of nextel partners)

actually its not 1 year after the merger closes. its actually once the merger closes they can calla shareholders meeting to option the put call that they have. chances are they will accept it or they can delay it up to 18 months. (my opinion, that they will call that option)

"will we miss out on all the new features or promotions that the new sprint nextel people will get? "

it depends, becuase by their contract they signed nextel has to support partners in their markets. but also it will be 3 years before nextel will move its customers to the cdma network. so nextel p would be fine for 3 years. by then they will excercise that put option.

Thanks, I guess if they decide not to join the sprint part, which would be stupid, i will just switch to sprint themselves here in 2 years, LoL.

i mean they could just focus on their areas, but that wouldnt be that good especially since they get a lot of their roaming arpu from nextel.

if you were to switch to sprint i would do it when the merger is completed and when qchat and rev a comes out.

another thing i forgot to add. becuase of nextel getting the 1.9ghz of spectrum, nextel partners has access to it too and can use it in their markets.

hope that helps..

also. lol. my mind must be mush or something, becuase i keep on thinking of something to say. but anyway. another thing is that since nextel/sprint will merger nextel partners will be allowed to access and use any spectrum that they have.

lol sorry for the 3 diff posts to you.. i hope that helps.
