SK3 and the Deaf

Just curious... My daughter is deaf and uses the SK2 (hoping to upgrade to the SK3) for communicating. She has a $29/mo data-only plan. Does she qualify for a discount having a disability? Also, what's the going rate on the new SK3 w/o contract?

I don't think you can get a break just because of disability.

If you've completed your contract term you should be able to get a break on the price of a SK3 with the commitment of another term contract (likely two years.) Go into a T-Mobile store or call them up. While PS is a good source of information it doesn't mean you shouldn't contact the carrier!

Hey, FWIW, I found out that if you live in Maine, you may be able to go through the Maine Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and get a discount on Sidekick service. From what I can tell Maine is the only state that offers something like this.

I dont think you get a complete discount with tmobile for being deaf but i do believe you do not need to have a voice plan to get the sidekick plan for that price. correct me if im wrong but i do believe the sidekick plan for non deaf people by itself is more money if you do not have a voice plan. and the sidekick 3 is a decent phone and great for the hearing impared

Also, don't forget that IP-Relay is available for Blackberry now too. (as well as the various messaging clients) Frequently people go right for the Sidekick because it was the only mobile device with IP-Relay for while but there are more options now :-)

Without a contract the Sidekick3 is gonna cost a little over $400 but you can always call and ask about the upgrades that might be available.

there are options as far as phone that are great for people with disabilities, there isn't really a discount for it unless you get a rep who feels sorry for you.
