I just found out that a phone i bought might be a stolen tmobile phone. I haven't put my sim card in it yet, but I'm just wondering if the phone is stolen then will I get in trouble for using it? I did not steal the phone, I did pay for it. But a friend has told me that the guy I bought it from has a tendency to steal things and sell them. I didn't know this at the time or else I would never have bought it. So is it safe to use it on the tmobile network or will the serial number show up on the network and I'll get into trouble? I guess another person bought a phone from him that ended up to be stolen, however it was an Alltel phone and they use the ESN numbers to identify on the network. So what should I do? Or should I call tmobile an...

if you have your own sim card you can use the phone. Sim is the brain of the phone and is what really matters. If your really worried you can call into customer service & give them the IMEI # & we can see if its been used before but thats it. Even if it is stolen nothing will happen to you.

T-mobile will never know if the phone you using is stolen or lost. That's true for any cell phone companies.

One thing good thing about SIM card is you have all the information there and you can put it in any phone.

The disadvantage of having it now is if you lost your cell phone or it got stolen, you might as well kiss it goodbye because someone else will end up using your cell phone now.

I lost lots of cell phones before. That's why I have insurance on it. I even lost the cell phone at a place where yo...

Not true. Every time you use a device on the network the operator knows what device and IMEI is using the network as it's broadcast when you make or receive calls.

If you call up your network operator and ask them what phone you're using they can tell you!

Whether or not a network operator will do anything about using a phone that is reported stolen or not is another matter. And just FYI it's *not* true for any cell phone companies. In Europe there is a commonly shared blacklist of known stolen phones. Those phones are barred from registering on the networks that share ...
