No More Renewals

From an independents Store's point of view, there seems to be a dark cloud forming over Tmobile. From the flurry of rumors of them being sold to them just up and going out of business in about in a year; I never paid any attention.

I however have to reconsder my stand point, as it was announced and confirmed that Tmobile will NOT be paying commissions out of upgrades starting August 1st. Hell I might as well put up a sign saying that my store is a Tmobile Port-out center.

I don't understand why they would do that, there just doesn't seem to be any logic in it. No pay-off in the California Market means that they are asking for it. Asking for people who want phones on upgrade to just port to another carrier.

If anyone has any clue to...

I think the reason may have to do with certain indirect dealers 'upgrading' customers without their knowledge. From what I've seen, it works sort of like this:

Customer walks into an indirect location and wants to change their rate plan. The agent looks up their account and sees that they are off of contract and eligible for upgrade. Instead of telling them this, the agent lies and tells them that they will have to renew their contract to change plans (whether they really do or not). They then click on the upgrade button ("yes") in iCAM and print out the paperwork and tell them that they have to sign it to renew their paperwork to renew their contract.

I've seen a number of shady agents in my market do this - and the sad thing is t...

I think they did that for the same reason. I would not go to an indirect dealer to upgrade, since I don't trust them. I might buy a phone from them, but not have them have access to my account. I rather call customer care up and have them do it, or just go to a T-Mobile Direct store.

Yeah, we were having waaaay too many problems with shady indirect dealers doing "upgrades", so they decided to take it away. I know not all indirect dealers are bad, and it sucks when a few bad apples ruin it for the whole bunch...

...on a quick note, I run into SO many situations that an indirect dealer has really screwed the customer over (ever since this upgrade thing ceased, now they are lying to customers telling them they have to change their phone number to get an upgrade, thus activating a new line of service...so I get the customer calling in to cancel their existing line...can we commission fraud? not to mention they lose all tenure, have to pay an activation fee all over again, won't get any mail in rebates etc...better believe...

Actually for your information the upgrade program for indirect dealers never went away. All T-Mobile did was to decrease the commission level to 1/3 of what it was before. Furthermore, no more commission is paid for upgrades for family plan $49.99 or any plan lower than $39.99.
I think in the long run this will hurt T-mobile because as it is customers are very picky and they are able to port their number to differnent carriers. Just last week, 4 of my previous customers ported their number out to Cingular and got the black razor for $149.99 with a 1 year contract.
Finally, since I am indirect and I carry all the carriers, when a customer from T-Mobile came to my store asking question about phones, I would almost always give exclusi...

...and then when they call in, I'm able to match or beat your new offer so they'll port back into T-Mobile and cancel the new line with cingular or sprint of whomever....happens all the time...

The only downside to that one is "well why didn't the dealer tell me I could get this deal". We just have to explain we have access to more programs and information. Plus we can still sell them on one year contracts, no activations fee's, equipment warranties, pricing plans, usually able to throw in a couple extra's too.

Now this is assuming it is just dealing with the price of a phone. So many people get so upset when they're not a new customer and don't qualify for that pricing and threaten to cancel solely for that reason, but they don't rea...
