This has been rumored for quite some time.

Here's my problem with T-Mobile. They had a chance to really change the wireless game with the recent changes to the rate plans. Unfortunately they didn't become the first nationwide provider to give you all you can use for $49.99. That would have provided the growth needed to make the parents back in Germany happy. Unfortunately the new plans didn't create enough of a buzz to generate new adds.

I think a lot of people realized the plan prices were scewed. Sure, you could get the low rate *IF* you paid full upfront price for the phone. Otherwise they tack the price onto the bill as a series of monthly payments lasting over 2-years, making the monthly rate more than most other carriers. And few people like to pay $400+ upfront for each phone, hence why contracts and subsidies are so popular.

I'll take it a step further. Yes, no one likes to pay up front, but let's look at the Metro PCS model. Phones start at $29 and monthly service is $40. T-Mobile could have put something out on a national basis that competes. Give me $29 low end handsets and $40 for all I can talk with no contracts. Because T-Mobile has the handsets and faster data speeds, they could tack on another $20 for unlimited data and texting. Again, something to change the game. Instead, they kept everything status quo.

The T-Mobile plans had to be underwhelming to their existing customer base. It seemed that they were just targeting VZW and AT&T customers. Almost as if they were intentionally ignoring their base.

Due to its GSM/UMTS nature, EM+ profits those who use unlocked phone, which are not likely subsidized. If you want subsidized price and contract, there are EM plans.

I used to work for T-Mobile from 2000 till 2005 and I can say that I saw this coming. They've always had great marketing and great vision but ALWAYS lacked with their handsets. Also they never made a big deal when they launched new data technologies such as GPRS and EDGE. But when they starting turning into a cell phone provider that seemed to target mostly kids and started focusing less on businesses, then I knew they were heading the wrong way.

In fact, they have almost the exact Enterprise Plans now as they did when I was in the Business Channel. That market was so hot back then but they never focused any attention on it. I saw this coming and can't say that I'm not suprised. There was even talks back in 2004 about splitting T-Moble i...

The thing is almost 3 months old.
The truth is: T-Mobile won't go anywhere in the near future.
