Is there away to use wifi on the G1 for phone use?

I was in a small town in rural Georgia and I took my T-Mobile router and was able to use my Black Berry in an area that did not have T-Mobile service. My brother in law had an internet connection and it worked just fine.

The other part of this question could I switch the SIM card to my old BB and use it on UMA? I don't have UMA from T-Mobile now that I have the G1.

The G1 has WiFi but no UMA. So you could hop on the WiFi on the G1 and browse the internet, but not make calls/texts if you don't have tower reception. If you don't have the UMA Hotspot plan, then every call is billed like normal, so you'll have no problem taking the SIM out of the G1 and into the Blackberry and make UMA calls.

No the G1 will never work on UMA. It does not have the hardware for it to work. And yes you can switch your SIM to into the blackberry. You don't any service to use UMA unless you want unlimited calling over wifi.
