carlsberg

Any idea when T-mobile will get G2? or whatever name they chose to call it.

or are they following the AT&T must wait 1 year (iphone to iphone 3G) route.

Thanks!

There has been zero internal communication on a G2. What little rumor there is points to it being same as G1 mostly, but without a physical keyboard, it will be all touch. I'd have to pass on that, I hate on-screen keyboards, I inevitably fat-finger everything.

i hate a full touch as well.

i prefer a physical keyboard. they need to listen to the consumers. plenty of people like a touch screen and still prefer a physical keyboard.

oh well... i was just curious.

There's no "1 year rule" for releasing a new phone. The G2 will most likely come out when the G1 sales start dampering off. Generally it's about a year, but T-Mobile (as any company) will make sure to maximize sales. What is rumored to be the "G2" is the HTC Magic which was released in Europe. It does run Android, and is all touch screen. Honestly, if I saw a G2 out for T-Mobile before Setember, I'd be VERY SUPRISED.

If T-Mobile was to rush a release on the next Android phone, it'd be because another company is coming out with a phone. So maybe if AT&T or Sprint come out with one sooner, you might see a G2 sooner than a year after the G1 on T-Mobile.

The HTC Magic could some out sooner than a year since it is not exactly the "G2." It's another android phone, but not the follow-up to the G1. It is a toally different phone. Its all touch. The follow-up to the g1 probably won't come out until 2010. It will have the same general layout, slide out keybord and all. But we may see a few Android phones on T-mobile before the end of the year.

T-mobile has several Windows Mobile phones. (Wing, Shadow, Dash) all differnt in their own ways. I wouldnt even get the HTC magic if it came because I hate touch screen keyboards. I have big fingers. lol.

With the G1 pricing dropping to 99.00 for new activations, that's telling me that G2 is lingering around the corner. Another thing I noticed is that I could buy a G1 outright for
$370.00

They're thinning the heard.

G1 hasn't dropped in price yet. As far as when or if it will its doubtful. If there is any interal info about this change i haven't heard anything about it yet. If you have link the spot where you read or heard it. I'd like to see it!

There has been no announced or rumored price drop in the G1. What are your sources? Buying a G1 outright is $399.99 and the fully discounted price is still $179.99.

There's a rumor that the G2 may make an appearance at CTIA, but I SERIOUSLY doubt it. The G1 is still hot, it would be bad business to release the G2 so early.

Well my friend,

You should check Walmart for the outright price and R-Solutions for the contract price.
Due diligence is a wonderful thing.

As the old saying goes, "strike while the iron it hot" may actually serve a purpose for T-Mobile. On a downward cycle in the industry, why would T-Mobile rest on it's laurels? So they have a hot phone in the G1. Big Deal.

Oh yeah, I watch what I say. Its usually pretty obvious what I can say and what I can't, so when you see my not commenting on something, its because its not worth the risk 😉

WalMart pricing doesn't usually reflect what is available directly through T-Mobile, especially if that price is online. WalMart's online pricing goes through Let's Talk, which most of us are familiar with.
As far as launching another product really fast, you do have to strike a balance. Maybe in Q4 of this year or Q1 of next would be the best timing, but in the first half of the year would probably be a little fast. T-Mobile is still launching plenty of other phones this year, so no worries there. Apple waitied a full year before the iPhone 3G, and this was n...

Indirect and direct dealers sometimes are going to be different. Places like walmart don't have to have normal prices to make a large profit because the majority of their profit doesn't come from phones. Like wirefly/letstalk.com. They have serious differences in prices. At this point there hasn't been anything to make anyone think the price will change. I mean seriously? It's been out for less than 7 months and people are still buying it like candy. They would be silly to drop the price right now. I think it's safe to say it's not going to change ever from direct stores the 179.99 is an amazing price as it is.

My manager said they heard the G2 would be closer to Q4 like the G1 was. But there have been rumors going around the blogsphere that T-mobile will announce the G2 at CTIA and cupcake will come out for the G1 around that time as well.

If you ask me I don't think we will see the G2 in the near future. I think we may see cupcake launched soon though. With the announcement of 3.0 for the iphone Google needs to step up their game.

Not just Google, but the developers too.

Having said that, someone will have to pry my Blackberry from my cold dead hands. 😁

Having HTC's Chou confirm at least 3-5 Android phones last week creates a tremendous buzz through through the whole industry.

Any help on getting me a ADR position??? 😁
