Thinking of upgrading: Torn between the G1 and the new BB Curve 8900

Okay, I'm eligible for the upgrade as of now. I'm debating between the one or the other.
On the one hand I absolutely love the way the new Curve looks, and the battery life is much better I'm hearing than that of the G1...

On the other hand, I'd be using the internet alot, mainly certain specific websites that offer mp3 downloads of their weekly internet shows. Can the Curve do that, like download files around the 40-80MB size range? Or should I go with the G1?

What it boils down to is this: BB Curve looks nicer and has better battery power, but the G1 is more internet-capable but is a little more big and ugly looking (like my cousin Leroy) 😁

question is... how soon do you actually need a phone?

I own G1 and am a BIG BlackBerry Fan.

Mainly have the G1 because I am a big gmail user and love Google apps...

Bottom line. Nothing compares to BlackBerry. The ease of use and email is unmatched. What turned me away from the 8900 is still the fact that is not 3G.

Reason I asked about if you actually needed a phone now is the fact that the T929 Samsung Memoir launches early March. It is going to have Android on it.

When that comes out I will be debatin between keeping G1, going to 8900, or the T929.

Rumors are G2 and 3G Blackberry later this year. Also even rumors of 3G SideKick.

I would wait to see whatthe Samsung has to offer.

Actually, the Memoir runs TouchWiz...so its going to be just like the Behold, just a little tweaks to improve the functionality.

So if Android is what you want...the G1 is the only US option right now and anytime soon.

The G2 has been confirmed by both T-Mobile and HTC, but no time frame for the launch. My guess is at least July once the G1 sales start to tamper off.

The G1 is still going to be the best bet for internet browsing. The 8900 can play mp3s but it might not be able to download it off the web. My suggestion is to go into a Retail store and try to do it on both the G1 and the 8900 demos they have there.

Umm don't know where you're getting your info. The T929 does NOT have Android, it runs the same Touchwiz interface as the Behold.
The G2 (allegedly) is a G1 with all touch, no physical keyboard. I also GMail for everything and switched from an 8320 to the G1. The battery life is not a big deal for me, but the BBs all get MUCH better than the G1.
As for a 3G Blackberry... we'll see about that one. RIM has pretty much been dragging their butts on this issue, but I hope we do get one.
As for a 3G Sidekick, there are many rumors and that one is probably true.
The G1 has the best web browser, which is why I love it. The apps are great as well. I really do love it, but I do sometimes miss the smaller size and convenience of my Curve, especiall...

I've demo'd the Memoir and can confirm this. Its a great phone but extremely like a Behold. If you dislike the behold you'll dislike the memoir. IMO it depends on what you want more. BB's are great but if speed on internet and google apps are more important i'd say G1. Plus its cheaper and you don't have to do the Mail in rebate. 179.99 vs. 299.99 with 100 mir.
Data costs are the same per month. 24.99 min

i apologize. there was an article about the Memior in stores about it having Android. But of course it was just a rumor... I mistakenly took rumor for fact, sorry for the misinformation.

If you're downloading files of that size, I would def recommend only downloading those files while on WiFi, no matter which handset you decide upon. That's a hefty amount for even 3G.
