I think it would be nice if pre-ordering was available on phones that are known to be big sellers. I think this may be the 1st phone available for pre-order ever in the wireless industry, at least that I know of.

I heard that, and I seriously doubt it. I think it's closer to 600,000 which is still really impressive. 1.5 million would be like 5% of the cell phone market before the phone is even released.

So since Tmo is trying to keep up with demand, but appearently there's way, way more demand than they anticipated, do you think HTC will be able to manufacture enough for launch day?

I also wonder if the immense demand for the G1 will cause Tmo to speed up deployment of they're 3G network.

Apparently there was a set amount of phones for the initial pre-order and a set amount to stock the stores. The pre-order stock burned up pretty quickly, but it didn't affect the stock going to stores. There is now a "second" pre-order that will get the phone to customers on Nov. 10. There might be a bit of a crunch in December, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

As for the 3G network, it's not really T-Mobile's fault that they haven't pushed it out faster. In my area, the launch date has been pushed back 3 times because the government can't seem to get off of the spectrum for whatever reason. So no, the G1 won't have anything to do with that.

i find it 90% true...being that the 600,000 you speak of was sold in the initial first 4 days of the pre-sale.
