New Customer, Frustrated with TMobile ETF

Hi guys... i think I need a little advice here. I came to t-Mobile 6 weeks ago. I bought a Nokia 5310 Xpress Music phone. Ever since the day I signed up I have not been able to rceive text messages from US Cellular customers or from Alltell customers. I have called T-Mobile and had this escalated to the highest level of tech support. One woman was kind enough to work the problem for nearly an hour one night before we both just gave up. T-Mobile has no other answer except to point the finger at the other carriers. I finally called today and ask if I sent the phone back if they would simply cancel my account. They said they are "sorry but cant do that"

I have been transferred around from person to person and talked to some of the nicest CS...

You are telling me that because I divulge T-mobile's policy on moving outside the coverage area, that customers don't get service from customer care?

Isn't that Customer Care's job....to provide service..... so how ...or why... would T-Mobile's policy disrupt you from doing your job and providing customer service?

Hell if your so pissed about it.... have T-Mo change their policies.

You sir are ridiculous...

People i like you circumventing the system for your own means and or amusement creates a problem for customers that actually need the "loophole" you are using. Servicemen and women leaving the country, students going abroad are the reason for having these systems in place, people that abuse them make it harder for individuals that need this to get the service they deserve. Also don't act like you are a patriot or something, you're just cashing in on you website by advertising on a better one.

He does have a point, people who abuse loopholes/policies end up ruining it for people who use it legitamitely. For instance, T-Mobile ended up having to lock third-party apps on the non-data devices because people were abusing the $5.99 t-zones for full internet access.

If people want to cancel early, pay the ETF. If enough people abuse those policies, they wont exist, or it will make it much much harder for people who those policies were made for.

I actually had to deal with a similar problem. The issue was that the phone number issued by T-Mobile was listed as a landline phone number in other company's databases. When US Cellular (or whoever) sends a text message to a landline, it is encoded and delivered differently. What you would need to do is try getting in touch with US Cellular and Alltel and try to get them to remove your phone number from the "landline" list. I don't remember what it's called off hand.

You could also try changing your phone number. The eventual solution for us was contacting a field technician to get into the account to fix the problem. Anything you do is going to be kind of a pain. I would stop in to a corporate location and see if they can fix it ...
