I don't understand unlocked phones. My wife and I will probably move to T-Mobile but they don't offer the Moto Q9, I was told to buy an unlocked one. Not sure what to do because I've never hears of unlocked or even know where to get one.

I would say two things, 1) go to google and just search for unlocked motorola q9 GSM, or 2) same search but on eBay instead.
I think those are the easiest ways to get one unlocked unless you just buy one from a GSM carrier (i.e. AT&T) and then get it unlocked from an online service or from a store in your area that does that.

well i think the easiest way would be to buy one from either e-bay or puremobile.com. Going to a GSM provider, you are welcomed to the world of unlocked phones. Because ATT & T-mobile are gsm providers you can get buy an unlocked phone, throw your SIM card in and be good to go. Cant do that with CDMA (verizon, alltel). The sim card holds all your info regarding you provider. Its what allows you to make calls from any unlocked GSM phone. Just be sure to check that the phone your getting has the 850 & 1900Mhz needed to operate in the states. good luck
