don't get me wrong, im glad that cingular is FINALLY doing some phone advertising other than the razr. but advertising a pda like the black jack is bringing in alot of unwanted customers.

for example:

alot of people (hicks, dumb, old, naive)are under the impression that the black jack isn't a pda. they believe its just a really cool phone, and thus, expect it to be just a regular phone with no data features....WRONG!

im getting alot of teenage snobs with their blackberry pearl they got with t-mobile without a pda plan. they want the phone cuz it's the hottest thing out there. don't really care what the phone can do......WRONG!

im getting ignorant parents who said that their 12-year old wants this phone for xmas (of course they wa...

I am still having trouble seeing where the problem is. If they want the phone, sell it to them and inform them on the data packages. They do not have to purchase a data package to get the phone. Dont scare them off with 20 and 30 dollar data packages when it can be used as a phone and text messaging device as well. Sale them what they want and not what you think they should have. Inform them, give them the pros & cons, and let them make there own choice.

My 2 cents!

I agree completely. What do you care how they plan to use the phone? As long as they know what they are getting, what's the problem? Heck, I only carry a regular phone myself, but even a "regular" phone has crap I don't ne...

why do i care?

a) customer is ganna come back later, complaining about high data charges despite my warning.

b) customer is ganna come back wanting to return the phone because they spent alot of money on the phone, yet they can't use half of it's uses.

c) like it or nor im a sales rep, if some half-witted shmuck doesn't want to get the data plan for what the phone is meant for, i know someone else who is really interested on how it works and how it benefits them will.

d) believe it or not i do care what the customer buys, i don't believe they should throw their money on something they don't need and come back later to complain, im always more than happy to find what handset suits them and their needs best.

e) it's personally ...

But that's why we said "only if they understand what the phone is capable of first". Your original post made it seem like your customers know that the phone will do a lot more but they don't care and they don't want those features. They only want to use it as a phone because it looks cool. In that case, I don't see why it would matter to you. But if you're going to get a lot of unhappy returns because they didn't understand ahead of time, then...yeah, I see your point.

I know a lot of customers will not buy it if they are informed that the 199 price is only if they subscribe to a 40 dollar data or a 20 dollar messaging plan. Half of the sales people i know sell the device not mentioning the stipulations or hooking it up on a 20 unlimited smartphone connect addon saying they will still get the rebate. Over all its their dime not ours and if they buy it understanding this then who are we to question it. Personally i find that most people like the music feature ability to check email. If they still want that and not the higher price then i tell them about the cu400 or the sync and they buy it with a smile on their face.

I agree. I inform my customers of the rebate requirements, but I am glad that they at least have the messaging extreme option and not only the PDA connect one.
