AM I Missing Something?
I posted this in the SE810i forum also, but this place has more traffic and it applies to all phones. Anyhow....
I have been reading a LOT of phone reviews and the one thing that I always see people complain about is if a phone will not allow you to use a complete MP3 song as a ringer. My question is...why would you want to? Do you plan on letting your phone ring long enough to hear the song play? It will go to voicemail way before it's done anyways. That can't be it. There has got to be another reason why people want to use full MP3s that I'm just not seeing. Sorry for the dumb question, but I honestly don't get this one

funny cuz it's true 😉

My w810i doesn't seem to have any problems using any of my full length MP3's as a ringtone....

Well, the reason cingular blocked the capability on the phone is because they want cusotmers to purchase their ringtones. If customers use their own songs as ring tones they are not purcahsing anything from cingular. If you buy a non-branded w810i the capability is not blocked. A way to get around this is to use a mp3 editor and cut a portion of the song and transfer it to your phone.

But it's not blocked. All you have to do is bring it down to the 300k limit. Anyone with half a brain and the right software can do it.
...
It is because they don't want to have to pay for ringtones.

I don't get it. All you have to do is edit the audio file so that it's less than 300k. 😕

You're absolutely right.. but most people either don;t know how or what to be bothered.. they just want to drop an mp3 on thier phone and use it as a ring tone..disabling the feature is a really crappy thing to do..
...
its because stan sigman craps $100 dollar bills thats why.
...
it's a compromise
nickel and dime the dumb customers but for those that know better, they can use this little workaround
otherwise, we'd have the smart people angry like VZW does
