ATT in talks to buy BellSouth

texaswireless

Move to have complete ownership of wireless network comes to fruition.. My original prediction was that ATT would try to buy out BellSouth's %. They just by-passed the wireless only and went for the whole enchilada.

Source of buyout talks - WSJ.

I am glad u mentioned this because I heard about this right after the AT%T buyout was complete. They have been in talk for a while now in secret for about a year. I heard from some friends who work for Bellsouth that if the buyout of AT&T wireless did not happen. Bellsouth would have cashed in their percentage of Cingular and use that money to buy Sprint PCS.

You might be suprised. The majority of blue stores use POS.com II. There were also talks Cingular corporate stores (orange) would also eventually switch. I have used both and I think POS.com II is very user friendly. Only higher up tier II etc. would still use telegence.

Again, so I have heard.

I ment billing... BellSouth foot print uses Care... From what I know someone on SBC (at&t) board owns part of the company that created and maintains Telegence...

I posted quite a while back this was going to happen. There were skeptics but alas I was correct. I will pat myself on the back for this prediction. 🤣

I've been waiting on this to happen. There have been rumors swirling around for sometime now that SBC/now at&t was working to buy BST. I think it would be a good thing for BST customers since BST is probably the most poorly managed baby bell. Does anybody doubt now the seriousness of not only Whiteacre's desire to change Cingular's name to at&t but also his ability to do just that? 😲

I doubt the name will actually change since they've put so much effort into branding everything with the name Cingular. however, since Cingular's reputation isn't quite "stellar", I would imagine their intent would be to essentially start over with a clean slate.

at&t mobil?

I don't know about that liamdeschain -- a few weeks ago Whiteacre said it was his intention to change Cingular's name to at&t. Everybody brushed it off at the time and said 'well SBC/at&t is only part owner of Cingular'. Judging by Cingular's perennial position as near dead last in customer satisfaction surveys I doubt the Cingular branding carries much value. A new start with a new name may breathe life into the company which is currently having its arse handed to it on a platter by Verizon.

i agree in terms of the customer satusfaction serveys, since they have been rated poorly in many aspects. however, monetarily, the rebranding of a company can cause more problems then it solves. especially when you've got the legacy AT&T customers being told that they're at&t again, just that it's lowercase this time around. but who knows, whiteacre can be as ambitious as he wants, hopefully it doesn't bite him in end.

i don't necessarily agree with cingular having it's arse handed to them by verizon. in terms of customer service and retention, yes, they definitely are. i don't believe that verizon is that far ahead, especially when it comes to coverage and total customers. do i think that verizon will pass cingular with total number of c...

Two things there,

Number one, att qualified their statements that they would "resell" Cingular service branded as att wireless.

Number two, Cingular's problems and efforts to solve those problems will not go away with a name change. While they make the change now that it will be wholly owned, it won't be due to "perception of Cingular" issues. They will do it because they feel att is the MOST recognizable name in telecommunications.

So is this a done deal, or is it subject to government approval?

Anyone have any thoughts or comments on the possibility of Cingular being re-branded ATT Wireless?
