61M customers and counting

The trolls are at it again. For them Cingular will never have a good quarter. 🙄 But the truth hurts, and what is hurting them (especially the fanboys over at the red check mark) is that they don't see Vz passing Cingular anytime soon.
I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it. The only way Vz could pass Cingular (customer-wise) will be by them buying Alltel.

Verizon's numbers are due on Monday. I would not be shocked to see them around 2.3-2.7 million net adds. But all carriers include resellers in their numbers, because they are selling blocks of airtime to other service providers based on the number of customers who will be accessing the network. In essence, they're Cingular customers with outsourced billing and customer service. We profit either way. Amp'd adds are included in vzw's numbers too. I just think the numbers far exceeded most people's projections and the profitibility is outstanding, churn is holding steady, 3g rollout is going well. It was an amazing quarter with room for improvement in post paid.

I don't care what the numbers are. But I don't see how Cingular can add numbers on say tracfone. If they want to give a total number of who uses their network fine but they also need to give numbers of who they sell to. Like post pay and pre pay then the MVNO's.

I should clarify I don't care if cingy has 80 mil people and sprint 2 million. As long as who I use works.

This is true, but all carriers add MVNO's to their numbers. Hell, it's the only thing keeping sprint floating 🙂

You guys are dumb, acting like you know what your talking about. Does it really matter? Unless you are an exec for one of these companies, you don't matter.

Actually it does matter to the end user too. A more competitive environment in terms of reporting figures means they'll have to fight harder for each customer. In the end, it's a small step towards making their product more attractive to consumers.

Tracfone also uses Verizon, US Cellular, TMobile and other smaller, regional carriers. Tracfone has 6 million customers, not 20 million. So when the big red checkmark talks about resellers, Tracfone is included too. Is it just me or did the IQ just drop about 30 or 40 points?

Have you noticed that Cingular advertises being able to call all their customers for free? They don't use non-MVNO numbers but total numbers. I thought that was a little strange. 🤨

They advertise 58+ million, which is not their total base. Check the website. 😉

That number always lags behind the current customer base for a considerable amount of time into each new quarter.

Perhaps they do it for a reason? I've never witnessed Cingular advertise customer numbers (pertaining to mobile-to-mobile) anywhere else but their website...with the exception of the first batch of post-merger advertisements.

right but the real question is are you going to call anywhere close to 58 milliion so its a mute point. I care about the 20 or so I call all the time! And I dont' know about anyone else but all who I call have a pretty good mix of carriers!

Not everyone who works for Verizon is trying to spin this into a bad Cingular quarter. In fact, I'm glad to see a good quarter like 2004 Q4 ... that was the quarter that forced Verizon to change from $20 add-a-lines to $9.99 add-a-lines. Hopefully another win with Cingular will actually get some much needed new rate plans.
