*** COMMENT ***
It seems that reviews (CNET, PhoneScoop, etc.) now focus on things like data transmission speeds, graphics, music and the like to the detriment of comprehensive and useful information about the phone component. This makes it difficult for those of us (am I alone?) wanting “just a phone”.

*** REQUEST ***
I am up for an upgrade from Cingular. I currently use a Samsung SGH-X497. I find its simple operation and large font size are what I need for business and personal use. I find its reception and sound quality marginal. My new phone needs Bluetooth.

Here are my needs and want:
1. Excellent reception – need
2. Excellent sound – need
3. Bluetooth – need
4. Large font – want

Here are the options I am consid...

Thanks.

My two kids got a707's last week and are both very happy. It is impressive. Two comments on this phone:

One of my kid's phones won't eject MSD card!?

Called list entries "expand" which thows me off a bit. Not sure how this would work out while driving. Probably a minor issue.

Switch to Sprint if you want better reception and call clarity.

It is weird that you are listing some pretty feature packed phones for "just a phone" needs. I would get the nokia 6102i it fits all of your needs and is great for reception.

Thanks for all the input.

Why are the Nokia 6102i and Samsung c417 recommended over the LG CU400 and SE W300i? Both have lower review scores on this site.

Well, personally we get a lot more complaints about dropped calls with the lg's. The sony is a great phone. Personally the sony interface once you get used to it is easier to use than the nokia and it has more features. I would use the sony over the nokia but I didn't mention it since you said you didn't like the SE UI.

Good info! Thanks.

Seems the Sony has great reception, call quality and battery life. These are what I really need over features.

I was exploring the W300i UI on the SE site and it definitely would be an adjustment from Samsung ... It has the odd "expanding" contacts and calls lists too.

BTW, my Samsung drops calls here in Northern CA.

Thank you to all for the help.
