AT&T/Cingular Migration Nightmare!! Don't do it!

Until 2 weeks ago I had my AT&T Digital phone (primary business line) and my Cingular TREO phone for International travel. Due to the shutting down of the Digital network--received formal notice in the mail from Cingular, I elected to transfer the digital phone number to the TREO and drop the second number. This was done in the Cingular store even though all I went in for was a new Sim card.

No One told me that:
1.They closed BOTH accounts and stuck me with a new 24 month contract that I did not agree to
2.I would loose the North America plan and my AT&T Canada plan (my biggest customer is Canadain!!) Calls to/from Canada are now over $.50/min!
3. I would be treated as a new account and loose ALL International access for 3 months-...

you just got a stupid rep. your ornage account did not have to be closed. the blue should've been migrated to the exsisting orange account. you need to go back and speak with a manger to fix what the dumb retail consultant screwed up.

Or you could really stick it to Cingular and switch to someone else with international services. Verizon has a North America plan...

The store definitely hosed you on this one. I'd go back and talk to the store manager. The plan isn't in our system anymore, so I can't even tell you if it's possible if someone way up there can add it on or not.

Now, do you just need international LD and Voice Roaming, or do you need Data Roaming too? There are different options for each. International LD is $3.99. International Roaming is $5.99. If you just need Canada then there's a Canada package that includes Roaming and LD for $3.99. If you need data service also then that's separate.

You should be able to have your old contract dates instated. The reason to do this is to prevent the store who screwed this up from making any money off of you. If you are going to stick wi...

Couple of questions,

When folks migrate they usually have to agree to a terms and conditions before the service will work. Did that happen?

Did you see any rate plan guides? How was a new plan chosen?

Did you keep any of your current numbers? If you did it is curious how they closed both accounts.

Have you contacted customer service about this issue? Were they able to access your old orange account and see that it did indeed have international calling?

Update: I went back to the store to see the manager. Was met with a blank stare and he called Customer Care. In the process we discovered that my previous GSM account was NOT closed and I would have continued to be billed for it even though the number was not on any phone. After threatening to leave Cingular, Customer Care put my business phone number on the "still existing" GSM account with the North America Plan and I regained my previous International access. Down side is I only had 450 min.on that plan and they won't let me have more without loosing the North America Plan. Time will tell.
