umts vs. hsdpa
Little info please......
Edge is about 130kb.
UMTS is about 300kb.
HSDPA is about 700kb.
And those are speeds relevent to current Cingular handsets and network capability.
UMTS can spike at 700k and HSDPA can spike at 1.5mb and get up to 3+ when Cingular is ready.
UMTS actually IS hsdpa. Just a software upgrade seperates them. UMTS supports Cingular video just fine. You just have to wait a hair longer for it to buffer, that's all. 🙂

Thats not true. UMTS is MUCH faster then Edge.

i was in a suburb of Atlanta last week and was able to use my Dell D620 on UMTS. WOW. i ran speed tests on a few different days at different times and got nearly the same results every time: 910k down/350k up. i have a ...

Here's my case for why UMTS will be significantly faster than EDGE for YOU. There are FAR fewer people on UMTS than EDGE. Networks that are less congested will perform better and closer to their theoretical limit than those with heavy traffic.
For those that are seeing fast speeds on Cingular's 3G network, enjoy them while you can.
