FIrst of all why change the name! Cingular is so catchy and atand t is soo boooring! I just like the name cingular! And are they trying to confuse everyone!?!? Then will the true cingular customers have to switch to at t phones!?!? HOw confusing for everyone! They want pplz off of the at&t plans and phones so hey why dont we just change the name back to At7T and then make all of the true blue pplz switch to a confusing 2006 true blue!?!? HOw congusing!

I think you meant to say his post was congusing.

Benny, all of those questions have been brought up. They're good questions, but they've already been answered. It's changing because ATT is a globally recognized name, like vodaphone or deutche telecom. It's changing over the course of next year, starting first quarter. Existing Cingular customers wont have to change a thing. Only the name of their provider is changing, not the service. Former ATT wireless customers will still need to change from their legacy ATT Wireless plans onto whatever phrase we identify themselves by at that point.

Let's clear up the congusing one more time for those who haven't been keeping up with the 1st of this forum....

THEY'RE CHANGING IN NAME ONLY!!!
they've change the name for marketing purpose, att is a name that's been around for decades now, it's a known and familiar name (kinda like how apple puts an "i" infront of everything)
cingular service, phones, plan, everything will remain the same, just a different name (At&t GSM)

If you have an older att then you have to switch over to the new att, they're not going to go back on anything, it's dead, it's gone, and over 😳

sorry if it seemed harshed

You would think someone would listen already. But no one seems to hear you or I or anyone else that has said these same words. ATT is dead, all that survived was the name, and that only because SBC bought it and put it over their own name.
Most of the confusion is caused by old ATT users that want their old company back. That simply can never happen. That company died.

at&t wasn't that great to begin with -.-, just cheaper plans, and if it sucks they just add more minutes you can't use.

I would assume they same way voice stream changed to t-mobile you didn't need to unlock your phone here also you won't! to explain this in a techy way its simple each carrier has a special what they call mmc code the when a phone is locked the phone looks for that code on the sim if if finds another it won't work so over they are not bying a different network code like att they are just changing the name like t-mobile!
