Can Cingular migrate my contacts from a competitors SIM card?
Have Nextel and don't want to spend the next month typing in new contact info. Can this be done?

Unlocked Nokia's will NOT read contact information from Nextels.
NO CINGULAR PHONES WILL.
They do use a SIM card, but it's a different kind, and the contact information isn't read on Cingular GSM phones.

really? I've had a customer come in and port and i was able to copy the contacts.

I have tried it with both a card station reader and an unlocked phone and it does not recognize the Nextel contacts/ sim card

Yes, there are various sim card readers out there that can copy info from one service providers sim to another. Ours looks like a bell shaped calculator.

The SIM card reader at our store doesn't work with Nextel SIM cards, and nor do our unlocked phones.
If you pull up the contacts there's always one in there, and it's some weird number, or combination of letters, not sure. Something weird.
But I've never seen/been able to get it to work.

I know some of the ones we carry do and some don't... For some reason my older one works awesome with everything!

If the store you visit has a UME-24 (or UME-36 when they come out) they will be able to get your contacts.
