TDMA fee
I love this idea. Do you guys think this will finally make them switch to GSM? Other carrier?
What do you think the percentage (of TDMA users) will be by the end of the year?
It's only 8% now. I would think that by mid-next year very few people will have TDMA...

Several carriers have been batting this idea around for a while. I like the idea as well, Cingular is set up to make money while they charge extra for antiquated service. If it bothers the customer, I'm sure that they will either upgrade or change carriers, either way Cingular wins.

I really don't think it's about the money. The promo offers Cingular has been sending these people hasn't worked to get their attention so this will definitely get their attention.
I wonder what CS is going to do to prepare for this.
When people complain about it, I think CS should:
1.) Offer waived upgrade fee (if they are Orange TDMA)
2.) Offer to credit back those fees if they switch.
3.) Make sure they have a free phone to offer.
4.) Explain how Cingular's $29.99 plan is a good value and something that is special for them (new customers can't get it)
5.) Have an explanation that will satisfy most reasonable customers (cuz it's the unreasonable customers that you wanna lose not the reasonable ones)

No, I don't think it has to do with money, but it makes a no lose situation for Cingular. They get the extra bucks, and/or get those customers upgraded, it's a good situation for them.

i hope they have them all off by years end. that would be great for the rest of us.

in my area we were told about this 2 months ago. and mailers were sent. we've seen alot of customes since then and many are cool with switching. at first we caught alot of retention threats but when you whip out a vzw brochure and the plan starts at 39.99 and their threat doesnt scare you. they normally stay.
some are pissed normally older folks that got used to their old phone and dont wanna give it up. but the nokia 6030 and 6061 have me covered. 😉 thank goodness there arent anymore v180's or 220's

I wasnt aware that we were offering a $29.99 GSM rate plan for the tdma users if they switch? WIll I be able to do this in my COR or does it have to be done through customer service?
...
there is a $29.99 plan available but i refer all those who wish to have it to call in for it because no upgrades will be commissioned on this plan, or sell them the phone at retail price and put it on the 29.99 plan so you dont lose money!
