I currently work in a call center. I'm a manager, but was once a rep. I'm leaving for a while to go on tour, but I have offers on the table for both a store and the call center again... both for about the same base, but I don't know the commission for a store (never worked there).
Anyone worked both in a store and in a call center? If so, what did you like better?
+/- of both?
...
yes. i went from help desk (team support) to sales. i got to keep my base pay, less the differential... but now i make commissions. money is better in sales no doubt, but i hate the way it is structured, managed, limited and so many other people are invovled with me not only making money, but doing a good job... if i get nothing but cheap customers i can't help that, if i get nothing but cheap customers AND have no inventory, i am double screwed. now i am only a sales rep, but i know a thing or two about our company, technology, how things work, billing etc....... but they took CARE away from store reps, we NO credit ability and if i have to call into customer care i end up telling them what to do and how to do it..... it' pathetic. ...

I am going to sales on 7/10 kinda nervous ...anyway why would a customer be sent to the store if they verified the account umm we dont have authorized users anymore just the last 4 of the account holders social or the password ... Does this happen alot?
...
Umm.. yes we do have authorized users.. or maybe that field in OPUS/telegence is just to take up space... and yes, it happens A LOT.
...
no. in sales, we have to have the account holder OR authorized user.... it's not the same all across the company. i got in trouble for using customer care verification on rate plan change because they were not an auth user but vid the account.

i did the call cent thing now store (indirect).
i loved the call center environment.
but pay and commision kicks @$$ now.

I workd at a call center in Los Angeles and have been trying to be xfer to a store closer to my home as traffic is getting worse by the day.
I believe the best sales persons come from call centers due to inside knowledge of systems and processes.

Sorry, but I have to disagree, having employed CS people. Systems, policy and procedure can be taught to almost anyone. I true sales person has a drive and passion that you don't learn from a manual or systems training.

Id take the pepsi challenge against any sales rep!
