Switching carrier and keeping same number?

slp

I know it's now possible to keep the same number when switching carriers, but I'm not sure if it still is under my circumstances...

I currently have Verizon, or rather a phone/number which is under a different person's name. What I want to do is to sign up for Cingular (under my name) but still keep the same number. Is it possible? And what do I have to do specifically?

Thanks for the help.

Yes it is possible.

You need the account owners permission along with their name, ssn, account number and billing address.

Make sure the Verizon rep notes the account holders approval too! That can be of help when/if the situation gets messy....

What's the best way to go about it? Should I start by opening an account at Cingular then let them know about the number on Verizon or go through Verizon first?

I would call for the info, but I don't want to get the run around about their "special promotions" and get pressured to sign up when I am already interested in doing so.

leaving Verizon for Cingular? 😲
thats absurd.

anyways to answer your question open your Cingular account then tell them you have a VZW number you want to port, they will handle it all for you your VZW account will be terminated and your number will work on your cingular device.
