TDMA Will not be shutdown.

Cingular Wireless will continue to support TDMA for many years more as well as analog. There will be no flash cut in any market. GSM and TDMA will operate in unison. There may be degradation in the TDMA service but the support will not cease.

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed to know. Now, if her 5165 craps out, she'll HAVE to get a GSM handset? Is that right? She's telling me that she doesn't want to sign another contract, but I think she might just have to.

With any cellular service except pre paid you usually have to sign a new agreement in order to get the best deal on the phone...

Only if she wants to change to GSM capabilities. If she wants to stay with TDMA, and she can find another 5165, she just has to call and swap the ESN # on her account. Prolly find one on Ebay...
