Bad thing about being owned by at&t
With the recent discovery that BellSouth was not sharing customer calling records with the NaziSA and that it was just at&t of the major regional landline carriers, it now seems that Cingular is truly going over to the Dark Side. How sad for our customers that we will be owned by a company which doesn't give a hoot about the privacy rights of American citizens.

Actually, just because they didnt release a statement debunking the USA today story, doesnt mean they had an agreement..

Owned by at&t? Dude it was a name only thing. SBC (partner with Bell South) owns Cingular. SBC BOUGHT AT&T and just took the name (along with everything else). So... if you want to cast dispersions, throw them at SBC/at&t who also will soon own Bell South so why not go with the world wide known name of at&t? Glad you are not the chairman of the board for this company, it would be broke in a month because you would "give" everything away! 😲

Perhaps I wasn't clear with my point -- it was basically that it is not a good thing that Cingular will be owned completely by SBC/at&t which sees no problem whatsoever with handing over ALL customer calling records to the NaziSA. At least one of our parent companies (BellSouth) did not just hand over calling records to the NaziSA apparently -- now that we will be owned by SBC/at&t completely it appears Cingular customers can expect to be unprotected against unwarranted government intrusion in their private calling records. We can just hope that the lawyers suing SBC/at&t will bring its weak-kneed Texas cowboy officers to accountability.

Don't be like that, read a little; nothing is new here. Cingular purchased AT&T WIRELESS and would have taken the name then, However the name was not owned be by the wireless company but by AT&T themself. Now they are together and have rights to use the names as such.

I'm not talking about names at all -- what I'm talking about is SBC/at&t's participation in the surveillance program at the request of the NSA. The part that IS new is the revelation that the company which will soon control 100% of Cingular does anything the government ask and doesn't care if customer privacy rights are compromised to a Nazi-like government agency. It causes concern that only at&t went along with this unconstitutional program -- Verizon and Bellsouth just said "NO".

Uhm, the people that were running sbc are still running the show, so cingular has long since been part of the dark side. so darth sidious now has the name of senator palpatine. 😁

LOL ... good one. I guess you're right -- but although Cingular's Father company (SBC/at&t) was from the Dark Side, atleast our Mother (Bellsouth) was good. Cingular = Luke Skywalker? ;)
