Contracts

Does Cingular offer 1 year contracts if I do not want a new phone? In fact, do I need a contract at all to port a VZ number over? I already have a new V3i phone that is unlocked. I'd like to try Cingular service without getting locked into a contract.

when starting service with cingular you are required to sign at least a 1 year service agreement. if you do not want to you can try cingular gophone.

I thought you didn't have to sign any contract but you would just get the basic min. (no mobile to mobile, etc...)

Some sales people might sign up people with no contract if they have their own equipment, but per policy, new actiavtion requires at least a one year contract.

it's possible to do no contract but it's not worth losing mobile to mobile

I found that most people that tried to sign up with a no contract service ended up going with the agreement since they really wanted the m2m minutes after a few months.

M2M Minutes is most people's main reason for getting Cingular

'Customers who do not sign up for a promotional rate plan AND elect to pay the "no commitment" pricing for the handset or activate with their own equipment, are not required to accept a termed service agreement'

No policy says you are required to sign a contract as you state. You can do a 'no term' and not receive the promotional piece. In this case, M2M.

You may be mistaking policy for commisionable payout.

Thanks. I think that's what I will do then. I don't care about the M2M anyway, and I'd like to be on the Cingular network for awhile to decide if I want to stay before making the commitment. Trying the gophone type sample isn't the same thing I have found and that's what I'm using right now on Cingular. It works differently then the regular network it seems.

we make 4 dollars off a one year contract, not that big of a deal... are you in a care market, because the last time i checked and honestly it was a few weeks ago, it required a one year contract for new service, even if they had their own equipment... i'll check tomorrow...

oh here we go again. it's all relative. the same argument. but i can tell you in the tn/ky market, cingular has a much better network than verizon. there are 5 corp. stores just in this area, 4 walmarts, 3 radio shacks and best buy and two authorized agents that sell cingular. there is one verizon store. wonder why?

ok, so i forgot to check, but i did today... and the info in csp was updated 03/14... so, if you provide your own equipment or purchase at no commitment price, you can get a non promo plan with no contract... sorry for my misinformation... csp changes to much for me... thanks for correcting me guys...

truly, you have not done your homework. the v3i is a cdma phone. you will NEED a gsm phone to initiate cingular service. your v3i WILL NOT work with cingular; there is no spot for a sim card. the gsm razrs are the v3 and the v3x. the v3c and the v3i are cdma and will not work.

Where did you get that idea? The V3i is a full quad band GSM phone, NOT a CDMA phone. I am currently using it on Cingular with a pre-paid account for testing. I also use it in Europe on a Vodaphone SIM where it works perfectly, which is why I am even testing it on Cingular here in the States.
It is the RAZR V3C that is the CDMA phone and is so restricted that I am trying to avoid buying one to use on my VZ account.

It is true that our prepaid (Pay as you Go) is a very small network, and Pick your Plan is a little bit larger but still not as large as postpaid service area. If you are testing our network, prepaid is not the way to do it. If you are testing the phone, then thats cool.

Pay as you go is limited to our network. Pick your plan is our network with 'preferred' roaming partners, regular plans are open roaming with the only exception being where another company blocks our customers, which isn't that big of a deal.
