Cingular SIM cards

Hello, all

I have a GAIT phone. Is it possible to swap the sim card from my GAIT phone into a GSM-only phone?

I suppose the obvious answer to this is, "yes, you can put it in another phone."

But will it work?

I like the GAIT phone for travelling outside the limited GSM area, but I like the features in the GSM-only phones.

Thanks!!

Yes, it will work. But it has to be processed in Cingular's system to ensure proper billing. The safe thing to do would be to putyour card in the new phone and copy the phonebook, THEN try to have them carry over the SIM to the new phone. This is something I do almost every day, but it can error out and burn the SIM.

Tom Z is right, this can be done, and there are hazards.
GAIT phones are designed to run as a native GSM phones. They have all the features of a standard GSM phone. If you live an a native GSM area then that's what your going to get- all the GSM services which are available in your area. I live in a native GSM area.
Some folks claim there is a problem associated with switching a GAIT SIM into a regular GSM phone. That when you're out of range of a GSM provider the SIM software will call for a search for TDMA. Apparently some folks who have done this find that their regular GSM phones cease to work at all.
I haven't tried switching SIMS. Regular SIMS are real easy to switch around.

Yes you can do this. We used to sell GAIT handsets and a secondary GSM phone for customers who liked the look of the GSM handsets. Technically you will be activated with a GAIT handset so you won't be able to use all of the GSM features (i.e. MMS, MEdianet) to full capability.

if you don't call and tell us everytime you put that sim back in the gait your phone will only try to pull gsm and not tdma.
