Like, WTF? There is *no* mention of 3G on Cingulars web site, there is no info on this site, engadget mobile, which seems to taking the place of phone scoop has at least a little info, but its almost March. I thought February? I live in Los Angeles, so I am thinking this can not be a market that would not be at least in the initial roll out.

Any ideas? What it the holdup?

They are building a cell tower on top of my building (literally) in the West side of L.A. & I was talking to the engineers. What they told me was that Cingular is wayyyyy backed up on the UMTS side of things, that they are having software / hardware integration issues & that this brand new, state of the art tower they are putting up will be EDGE only. Absolutely, one would think that a large carrier would be anxious to launch 3G service and new 3G phones by now, and when calling Customer Service (611) from your Cingular phone, they have no idea about the Samsung zx10 or LG cu320 or even about HBO mobile, which is even advertised as 'coming soon' online at the bottom of the main Cingular website.

It is becoming more questionable if Cingular will remain at the #1 spot for the rest of 2006 if trends continue. We are in need of new and better competitive services.

and you should know by now that when you call a front line rep unless you are not going to be able to get reliable information on something that may or may not be comming soon. until you can go to your local store and get it off the shelf expect no solid information for said reps.

Well, if a customer asks a question about a competitive service and something like HBO Mobile, which is advertised on Cingular.com, it should be looked into to find some sort of answer for the customer. The customers are the people that add up to that 54 and some million people, and companies expand and improve by servicing us customers.

yes, servicing your customer on products that are available is to be expected, but to be able to look into a crystal ball and speculate is unreasonable. there is a good reason cingular does not give launch dates on phones too far in advanced, things change and with cingular they change often. in my opinion a rep on the phone really only needs to be concerned with matters at hand, not with what may or may not happen.
