When is Cingular coming to Arizona?

I was hoping that someone could tell me when Cingular is coming to Arizona. Also, will this be before the buy-out is complete, or is will they just be getting here via the ATTWS buy-out?

I have Sprint and love it, the only company that interests me at all besides Sprint is Cingular.

If they get here before the buy-out is complete (in other words, if they cared enough to come to Arizona before thinking about buying ATTWS) I would consider switching to Cingular.

Please give me any info that you can.

Oh, one last question. This may sound dumb, but is it possible to get Cingular now, even though they are not here yet and just get an Arizona number? I know that the Cingular customers that are here use ATT towers anyway, I just w...

Thats good to hear, however Cingular is not here yet, officially. In the middle of the mojave desert is a little vague, seeing as how the whole state is a desert, and Phoenix is in the middle of that desert.

What I want to know is will they be here as Cingular themselves, or just a company buying out the ATTWS system the way that Verizon came to Arizona by buying out the Airtouch system?

I know that the phones work here, I've seen that first hand. That is not the real issue. The issue is will the actual cingular comapny be here, you know with stores and all before the buy-out is completed?

I don't expect the cingular system to reach everywhere here, it will be quite a long time before that will ever happen (not even CDMA and An...

Arizona is a funny state, at least carrier wise. In Arizona, only Verizon and ATT have towers that are working. Sprint has a few too, but most of their coverage is complements of Verizon (CDMA). The ATT towers mentioned are TDMA and are in the process of being coverted to GSM, hence the small coverage in the state (GSM Nation map). ATT does have a couple of dozen GSM towers that are about to launch and be activated which should cover about 60% of the state. I think the ETA on these is Oct 1st, when the merger is suppose to "take full effect."

The company I use to work for in West Texas (Go Wireless) also has 9 Verizon stores in AZ. This is how I know this information. Since I am a frontline employee in North Texas now, I bet SimplyMArcu...

I couldnt tell you for sure but they will most likely come once they gobble up AWS. Why would they spend the money to build infrastructure and buy licences in areas where they will be aquiring them in a few short months. They may build out new towers in outlying areas where neither carrier has towers but I doubt you'll see them double up in existing areas. If you want Cingular service youd probably have to get a number for an area they cover and go on a plan that covers AZ.

Hey-- I just got a Cingular phone. I'm moving to Ariozna in a few weeks. Is there any chance that customer service could hook me up with an AZ number?

The sales guy told me that changing numbers cost $18. I figured that there'd be Cingular in AZ, since it was more-or-less covered on their service diagram. Didn't know that they usually just piggyback on T-Mobile's towers, and there was no Cingular dealers in the state.

Anyhow-- am I up **** creek? Should I return the phone and eat the $36 activation fee?

Without a paddle, unfortunately.

Since we don't have a 'market' in AZ, there'd be no chance to use the Mover's program.

Well i know att is in arizona, so you'll get service when the buyout happens. Maybe you should go with att then switch to a cingular plan when the buyout happens???

epilogue:

I returned the phone, got all my cash back. They're not charging me for the activation fee.

Looks like I'm going to Sprint-- good service both here AND in AZ.
