Upgrades and ETF

I had a friend who recently upgraded their service from a motorola v60 i to a samsung P 107 to start a family share plan and the store made him pay an ETF fee plus sign a new 2 yr contract. Is this standard policy or did he get taken. AWS allows customers who are migrating service to do so without any sort of penalty. Especially not any ETF fees.

Wat up simplymarcus from cingular wireless customer care. I think what probly happened is he was not upgrade elgible or he could give him a better price as a new customer. You do not have to pay a term fee to go to a family talk with cingular.

yeah, he got taken so the rep could get a commission off of signing a enw customer instead of making no money on an upgrade.

maybe he wasn't eligible for an upgrade, and the reason he signed the contract was to get the phone discounted.

it's still generally cheaper to pay full retail for the phone than it is to pay the termination fee and an activation fee on a new phone. but the rep wouldn't make any money if they just sold them the phone outright at full retail price. i don't know for sure, but given the information, this is what it sounds like happened to me.
