I've been with cingular for 8 years now. I've been out of contract for a few months now and recently lost one of my phone. Lockline wants $50 deductable to replace my old samsung phone as usual and so I decided to upgrade my phone to razr and sign another 2 year contract. But before I had a chance to call, my friend told me I can get 2 razr for FREE (no rebates) on family plan with a Tmobile agent store with activation fees wavied. I called cingular.. talked with the retention department.. told them about my situation and after a long long hour of talking witht he rep.. she offered me 2 razr for $120 + tax each with $50 credit on each line for a total of $100.. so basically $85 each including tax and shipping. I was extremly dissapointe...

WTF is a royal customer?
I guess he was not that "loyal" when he switched for a phone after 8 yrs...

Dude most certainly is a 'royal' customer... The guy thinks he is entitled to a free Razr because he pays his bills on time. 🤣
Seriously though, I don't think that wireless carriers should be in the business of catering to people demanding free equipment. How about your company trying to provide reliable service and a competitive plan?

...Not neccisarily.. if he lives in a large city, like I do, then he will do just fine with T-Mobile. T-Mobile has better signal in my area than Cingular.

But if he travels to let's say, small town Indiana...good luck to getting a signal there.

What an stupid thing to say.....don't people think if something is for free, its for a reason. the reason cingular and hate to say verizon don't give the good phones for FREE is because there network is 110 times better than tmobile....SO good service or $80.00 which is better.....?????? let me know when you get a flat or your lost and can't make a call...... good LUCK buddy!!!! 😈 😈

I had both T-Mobile and Sprint all last year and interestingly I got more reception on my T-Mobile than Sprint. Only reason I dropped T-Mobile was cause I work for Radioshack and get a great deal on my Sprint plan. I had been with T-Mobile since they were VoiceStream! (back when 250 minutes a month for 39.99 was great :lol🙂

Considering Sprint's network, it doesn't surprise me that you got better reception with T-Mo. Sure, T-Mo's network is rather small, but it's pretty darn good.

and when you need a new phone from T-Mobile after a few years, you'll be back to Cingular because T-Mobile is the worst about giving their existing customers a deal... At least with Cingular they were trying to work with you...

I won't say Tmo is the worst with upgrades for existing customers, however those deals are not as good as for new customers - problem, im my view, throughout the industry. When you decide to again upgrade, this philosophy will lead you to a different carrier - likely back to Cingular. Not to mention if Cingular takes Tmobile over... 😉

Heh, once they unwind their networks, T-Mo is gonna be hurting bad in the Empire and Cali markets. Who else is going to want a medium-size GSM network? Hmmm... if they sell quick, maybe Cingular will want them. Otherwise, Cingular will have put their towers in place. Somehow, I don't see Cingular buying T-Mo.

So your saying after paying 100 dollars a month, 170 dollars for 2 razors is keeping you from staying with cingular? It is a known fact that when you sign up for a "new activation" you can get a better deal then an upgrade. So like the other guy said that when u go to upgrade your phone from tmobile, good luck. Its kind of sad how people will say "IVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 8 YEARS GIVE ME A FREE RAZOR". I laugh at people like you because you have to understand that there are rules. I guarentee that "agent" of tmobile is taking a big chunk out of thier comission just to get your new line activation. Then for you to call Cingular and say that if you cant get 2 razors for free your going to leave shows that you werent very loyal in the firs...

I just called to see if you have some kind of deal for existing customers..out of contract..( I even told her that I know it can't be done for FREE but what kind of a deal they can offer me for signing another 2 year contract).

1st rep... I can give you 2 $50 credit on your line but you have to pay $149 + tax for each phone.

About a year and a half ago, T-Mobile did market testing where they would offer the usual upgrade prices on a 1 yr contract, but BETTER pricing with a 2 yr. Apparently the testing went well, because last fall, T-Mobile launched the 2 yr pricing option. Now, note the word "option". You can choose a 1 or 2 yr contract to get the pricing that goes along with each. Last I saw, though, it was rather silly b/c on some of the phones, you got the same price whether it was a 1 or 2 year contract.

Now, for whoever said that T-Mobile is the "worst" for getting a good upgrade price, that is silly. T-Mobile is the first company that I know of th...

Like Duuuude. He won't be back.

You don't get it. People are LEAVING Cingular. Many are finding what they could not get in other carriers. Why come back? Cingular's dwindling activations vs the other carriers MORE then prove that.

NO he won't be back except maybe to play the system. But thats getting harder and harder for people to do as cell phones become more then a luxury item and more of a utility for many.

Thats where Cingular will ultimately fail, When phones are a necessity people want reliability and great customer service. Only cngular cannot provide either on a national basis as clearly the numbers represent.

Verizon obviously can. Sprint/Nextel and T Mobile are doing better then Cingure.....Duuuuuuude

there you are again with the ridiculous claim that t-mobile has better service than cingular

there's a reason why they give out so many minutes.....

I go by public choice. Seems the public is usually smart over the long run. The cream rises. It may take time but it does rise. the public as spoken. It took me awhile longer to "get it" as I had cingular for many years.

The public chooses Verizon, and are as of recent quarters choosing T Mobile and Sprint over Cingular.

T Mobile gives out minutes because they KNOW what Cingular does not. They are NOT VErizon and cannot charge Verizon prices for lesser reliability and coverage. Thats pretty smart business.

How many Fords would be so...

Why shouldn't a customer of 8 years, who is eligible for an upgrade/out of contract, be able to get the same deal a customer who is just signing up for their first contract should get? I see free Razr ads for Cingular all the time.

The reason behind the difference is the way companies handle compensations.

The fact is companies always tell you (which is correct) that it is cheaper to keep a current customer. The problem is companies are more interested in showing power and size so they push for more subscribers.

Therefore, they pay 3 times the compensation for new activations as they do upgrades. Companies that are big such as Best Buy and Radioshack use new activations as a big way to draw in business on hot cellphone items. Online stores that are giving out free Razors have very complicated and long rebates such as the "Good Customer Loyalty" rebates that require a customr to have 6 months of active service before applying for the rebate. The 6 months covers th...

I (almost 😉 ) could not have said it better myself!!! The old adage about a bird in the hand being worth more than 2 in the bush remains true, though the most educated & powerful seem to not understand nor value simple wisdom...

Depends on where you go... if you go to an agent, most of the time, they won't do an upgrade because they simply do not do them. (referring to best buy, walmart, radio shack, national companies)

corporate stores, and some agents do have the same pricing for new or upgrading customers.

Come to my store and you'll pay 99.99 for either razr, new customer or not.

This is a long post, but i'm gonna reply anyway.

You said you went to an agent for T-Mobile. Thats like comparing apples to oranges in the cell phone world. I'm not even talking about coverage or anything else.

If you canceled your cing plan and signed up as a new cust with a cingular agent, you could have gotten them for free. (Agents simply do not offer free razrs to existing customers, only new ones)

Now, if you went to a tmobile corp store, you would have paid 199.99, in a cing corp store, they are 99.99.

well you may be a "royal customer" as you proclaim yourself but we dont intend to just serve kings and queens. You can take advantage of our service at year 1 or 10. But "loyalty" was once defined by a man who said "WOOHOO! FREE STUFF! FORGET THE PEOPLE WHO STOOD BY ME FOR 8 YEARS!" Personally im glad not everyone is like that. Imagine a word where your neighbor could buy your wife by giving her a TV. Or your dog disowns you because some guy down the street gave him a bone.

basically, this post is a microcosm of cingular's issues. the fact that one customer left cingular for a better deal, seems to have everyone's panties in a bunch. most cingy fans go around thumping their chest because they're number 1, when the fact is, they bought out their way to number one. sprint and tmobile will probably never catch up, but it will be interesting to see how many customers the other three can poach from cingular before the company stops treating it's employees like crap and give an incentive to want to treat the customer like gold. believe or not, sprint actually hands money out like candy if you can provide good customer care....it's just that we seem to hire morons too stupid to realize that.

>>> number 1, when the fact is, they bought out their way to number one.

A little off topic now.. but, didn't Sprint just buy Nextel? Hasn't Sprint bought almost everyone of their resellers including Nextel Partners? Isn't Verizon a combination of Airtouch, PrimeCo, Bell Atlantic and Nynex?
T-Mobile bought OmniPoint and the hits just keep on coming... The point being, M&A's are part of the business and wireless world.

You found a better deal, you went for it. What was the point of posting this, or even calling Cingular?

If Wal-Mart has milk for 1.00, i'm not gonna call the local grocer and ask for a better deal. I know they are not going to price match their 2.39 milk for Wal-Mart's 1.00, so I just save my time and get it for 1.00.

If not for the risk or getting fired, i'm sure the rep would've told you to go screw yourself and just sign up with T-Mobile.
