I have been with Verizon for longer than I care to remember. and although I have had no problems with dropped calls or static at all, I cant stand the fact that they have no phones to choose from! The only thing that has been holding me back from jumping to Cingular is that I kleep hearing rumors that teh service is no good. I live in the MD/DC are but travel the country a lot. So how bout it? Should I stay or should I go?

you should be good to go in that area. you could always try it out, as Cingular does have a 30-day return policy in the event you are unhappy for any reason. the people on this site that tell you the service is no good usually base their comments on heresay or 5 year old rep...

i have some family in md, i had cingular im not going to lie it wasnt that bad, pretty much equal to verizon.

as to dropped calls, every company has dropped calls verizon has the least of any national, but my bestfriend has cingular and he never really has any problems with dropped calls, he drops around 3-4 calls a moth, but he blames that on the network integration, he has an ATT gsm phone. and before the merger he very rarely had any dropped calls

in my experiences with cingular gsm and static and buzzing, it is most common with samsungs. my friend switched from the samsung color flip phone(silver with no outside display, i dont know the model number) to a motorola T720 because of all the static the person on the other end heard. no...

i dont know too much about cingular but i know t-mobile is only pcs, so for lack of a better term i suggest a "tri-mode" gsm phone so that you can roam.

i think tri-band would be a better term 😉

just a little tidbit to add:
also, roaming only works if your carrier has an agreement to begin with. t-mobile does have SOME agreements, but just because you have a tri-band phone (including 850mhz, since 900,1800 are european) doesnt mean you'll get whatever is there. and they don't have as many roaming agreements with cingular as they once did.

All Cingular phones have at least dual-band 850/1900mhz frequencies, which is all that's need...

We use mobile phones in our Tractor trailers. Mostly travel from Tx. to N/W, West, maybe an ocassional Fla. & return. Usually have very good coverage in general. Reception is dependent on several factors. Different brands of phones are not all created equal. In general Nokia's have good RF gain. Also the Moto V551 or the new V557, if you like flip phones. Make sure the phone you get has buletooth for convience & EDGE for fairly high speed internet service. The new Cingular 2125 would be an excellent choice, with WM5, EDGE, Bluetooth, 240X320 16 bit color screen, voice dialing (with Voice Command) & greatly improved RF gain with expaned enternal antenna, in the hump. If you travel a lot & need max ability to talk (RF gain), you could ad a Wil...
