When is the best time to switch to cingular?

aphiohokie

We have a 2 line family plan and our contract ends in late november and we want to switch carriers, and probably will go with cingular, because of plans and phones. we want the razr, and actually don't need the new ones, we'd do fine with the old ones, either silver or black.

basically, would we get better pricing, both on the razrs and plans, switching between dec 1 and christmas, or wait until after xmas and after the new razrs flood the market, like sometime into the first month or two of the new year?

The CEO of cingular said their network should be alot better in about two years, so I would try switching then. It's a disater right now, hope this helps.

Yeah, it sure is a disaster. I mean, I've been with Cingular/AT&T for almost 6 years now and I can't even make or recieve calls. My RAZR just sucks. Owell, I guess I'll just keep paying a bill for something that doesn't even work, since you know, our network is such crap.

When I come to work every day I think about how much I am screwing people over by selling them Cingular, I mean it's just that bad. Someday hopefully it will work.

I got you beat my friend. Almost 10 years here and love my Cingular service and their awful network. I have 5 lines on my account. Can't ever foresee me ever changing carriers. I never have to worry if I am in the "in" network lol

Heheheheh, nah, just a 12 bed room estate.

Any woo, professionals who travel this great country side rely on verizon time and time again for outstanding service. I've done a side by side road test and cingular falls short right now. They have some serious work to do in every department. I want to see cingular succeed, but I donโ€™t see positive change in there business practices, so I doubt I will see any drastic change in cingular for some time. Itโ€™s really shameful that cingular has such a bad name now, people are really getting hip. They need some new leaders and hopefully they can improve.

I really can't answer your question but seeing as others who have replied to your post have already taken it off the subject, I just wanted to bump the original to the top. Hope this...

Hmmm, I've had Cingular service since the merger went through and have been enjoying the best cell phone service I've ever had. And that's after having had Verizon service for six years before that. Explain that one to me. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

IN all honesty, you have to decide for yourself what is the "right" thing to do.

A lot of people will come here and claim "cingular sux, go with verizon"

Then you'll get those who say "Verizon sux, go with Cingular"

You'll even have a few who will say "They all sux, go with Sprint; or Tmobile; or nextel...OK...maybe nobody would tell you to switch to nextel.. " ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

One thing people seem to fail to consider is that all of those "verizon is better/cingular is better" debates are based on one thing: personal opinion, based on past experience. This of course is heavily, very heavily, influenced on a regional basis. In some areas, Verizon is better. In some, Cingular. In a few, you are better off with Tmobile or even Sprin...

Honestly, we loved the service we had with verizon because we were never roaming, never left the digital network, never had a dropped call, and never got the 'all lines are busy, please try again later' like we do now with a NTelos that we have now. But verizon could never link our family plan and kept billing us for every call between our two family plan phones and we had to go to the verizon store every month so they could take our $300 bill and figure out how much of it was incorrect and 'fix' it and we got tired of that. I work at a mall and with Ntelos on my Nokia phone I get in between half and full bars while a guy with cingular barely gets a bar, but he said he never loses signal or has bad quality or dropped calls.

I thought we c...

But here goes,

Yes, most likely there will be some price drop on the older RAZR handsets once the new ones come out. The problem is the V3i is not due out before Christmas, so you may be waiting a while. The moeny you could save on any accessories buying in December might be worth not having to wait.

Of course that is your call.

Sorry no one bothered to answer without the flames.

I would not expect a drop in price for the Razr, so based solely on that, stay where you are. Drop in pricing mostly signifies a problem (not enough demand or discontinued/being replaced) and the Razr is nowhere near hurting at it's current price, we can't keep them in! PTT is right around the corner and some other really hot items will be hitting before the holidays, so cool phones will be in abundance (for a price!) and you deserve some cool toys...

Why would you not expect a price drop in the RAZR? You said it yourself, it's probably a sign of being replaced. That doesn't mean there is a problem with the phone though. In this case it is simply being replaced by the updated V3i. There is no point in Cingular keeping both models in their lineup. That's why we should expect to see a price drop before Christmas.

1. We're talking corporate Cingular stores. Many people don't want to deal with the issues Best Buy will hand you.
2. I am not the one who was asking about a price drop. I wouldn't have a Motorola if somebody paid me to take it.

You really should try the RAZR, Ruff. I feel the same way you do about Motorola as a whole, but the RAZR is a really good phone. And gets good signal as well.

The current incarnation of the V3 has been around a year already. In terms of technology that is an ice age.

Name another phone that has been around more than a year AND has a newer, better version come out and DIDN'T have a huge price drop.

I am curious as to what you base your opinion.

LG1400/1400i/C2000 all have stayed at same pricing...Name one that has? Typically they get discontinued without lowering?
...
texaswireless

Nov 16, 2005, 3:52 PM
The 1400/1400i was the same handset with minor changes (just as the new V3 has video now) and the C2000 was not released while the 1400i was still available, hence the example is not valid.

Potentially the V3 will still be available (I am talking from distributors, not remaining stock on store which may or may not be available) when the new V3i comes out, creating demand for the new product while a discount might be needed for the older version. If the V3 is discontinued at the same time (or earlier) then there will be no price drop.

if you have a handel on how to service your own product or add insurance go to your local wal-mart. i not an advocate of buying a cingular phone from wal-mart but the razr in my area is $68.00 up-front cost. wal-mart for some reason doesn't do mail-ins. but i know their sales team in my area are dumb.

so if you think you won't have any tech issues, or problems that can't be handled by warranty go to wal-mart NOW!!!!if you want true cingy help buy it from a store around "black friday" or more near Christmas.
