I know its been said by most people, myself included, that the HSDPA phones wont be rolling out for quite some time. This statement is still true, however, the first appears closer than was previously thought. keep in mind that all other phones fit the previous statement, but it looks like the Samsung SGH-ZX10 looks will be the first HSDPA phone carried by Cingular(even tho training info still isnt open to reps and managers ๐Ÿ˜ก )
Keep in mind that other HSDPA models are still running behind schedule and Samsung will be the only manufacturer to make the pre-thanksgiving cut. Althoough un-announced, cingular has declared the ZX-10 as compatible with its network. It can even be found on their MEdia Net site as a compatible phone. Take a lo...

PS: Today Cingular officially announced it will sell Sierra Wireless's AirCard 860 3G PCMCIA card. That means its the first products to support Cingularโ€™s UMTS/HSDPA network (told ya so ๐Ÿ˜› ). The AirCard 860 uses both 850/1900 UMTS and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, with speeds averaging between 400-700 kbps with 1 Mbps bursts.

OOOOOOOH I can't wait until November 1st. I'm going to get the aircard and that will determine how well I like hsdpa. I think it will be great though. ๐Ÿ˜

Do you honestly think you are going to be able to do a fair assessment of how well you like HSDPA on the first day that it goes public???? Please. ๐Ÿ™„ ...

It's rumored HSDPA gets 30ms ping (EV-DO gets 300ms). A 30 ping is good enough if it's true.

Though when you look at Verizon Wireless' website, their aircard speed is up to 2.4 Mbps. Why would Cingular be so far behind and how do they expect to catch up?

This shows the very first hsdpa card from Cingular to be up to 1.8 Mbps. So, it's really not that far behind. But there are a few different reasons why Cingular is slightly behind.
1. Cingular has the first hsdpa network.
Unlike Verizon, Cingular is the first to launch their technology. EV-DO was commercially available in a few other countries so it had it's fledgling start before Verizon was using it.
2. The first Generation devices. These first devices are not going to t...

Well, not sure if I agree, as EVDO Rev A will be coming out and will be much faster. What do you think?

So while Cingular is 100k or so behind in download speed this Christmas, the overall product will be better and in 6 months to a year, we'll be asking why Verizon is so far behind Cingular's 3 to 4 Mbps devices.

You sure 'bout dat? Cingular's own CEO said Cingular is 12 to 18 months behind Verizon in rollin' out the 3G high-speed network.
