Cingular hates former AT&T customers!

🤭 I signed up for AT&T cell service 2 years ago and got a great calling plan I love (1000 daytime & Unlimited N+W for $39.99) at Good Guys. I also have an awesome phone with the Panasonic GU87 that I paid a lot of money for before it was discontinued 6 months later 😢 . However, since the merger, more than a year ago, the service has sucked! My available calling area in Los Angeles has been basically cut in half with so many dead zones throughout the city it is ridiculous. We are talking like area like the heart of Hollywood and Wilshire Center, as well as many parts of Downtown - 3 of the most densely populated areas of a city of 12 million people. I attribute that to my AT&T tri-band phone, issued by AT&T, and lacking the abi...

buy an unlocked phone off the internet that uses the 850 band.

problem solved

i said it before - the Cingular-ATTW thing wasn't a "merger" - it was an aquisition. in an aquisition, the company being bought out usually has to conform to the policies and practices of the company doing the buying. people may not thin it's "fair" but that's how a buyout goes.

when Adelphia finally gets converted to Time Warner or Comcast, those customers (including me) should expect rates and services to conform to what is offered by one of those companies - and there won't be any "grandfathering" - they'll just up and change it and i'll have no say in it. at least you have the option of buying equipment that will work for you with your existing rates.

I've bought several phones directly from Nokia. You have 30 days to try it, and send it back if you don't like it. I've had to do that - no problem with getting 100% of my money back. Their prices aren't the best, but I like their return policy.

I've heard from many people about good experiences with buying from Ebay, and online retailers like SimonCells.com, and others.

Just buy a phone, and stick with the plan you love. You'll get MUCH better coverage with a phone that has the 850 band!

I'm a blue customer, by the way. I have a plan that I won't leave either. I've had GSM service from the beginning with ATT. My first GSM phone only had the 1900 band. Coverage was much better for me when I bought a tri-band phone.

Interesting.

Unless you bought your phone in Ventura county (where ATTWS was 1900 MHz) you sort of screwed your self with that phone purchase.

Cingular = Service provider

Nokia, Motorola, etc. = Handset provider

Cingular sells the equipment they sell. Please stop complaining that you are at some disadvantage because THEY won't sell you a phone. You come across as completely ignorant (you aren't asking "hey where can I get one" you are pissed Cingular doesn't have them) when the problem could easily be solved.

Educate yourself before you just try to slander others.

as well i have a comment as for the ( honouring) contracts... cingular has honoured everyones contracts.... everything u have that costed u a contract u still have....

u have to remember cingular has there own plans... that they have for a specific reason... now when they merged u still had that rate plan... but if you want to make a change u have to change to what available now...

same thing.. if ya switch to verixon ot tmobile you will nto get exactly what u have have had..

texas wireless is a MORON! I bought my phone from AT&T when I signed up for the service, like most people have to do in this country! It is not my fault that they were bought out a year later and had virtually no maintenance on AT&T towers. I had great service with AT&T and the worst service with Cingular. I am willing to buy a new phone from Cingular but they won't sell me one unless I choose to pay nearly double for the exact same plan I have now. That is my issue with them and I am not too confident in their coverage in LA anyway if this is the way they treat their 41 million and dwindling customers. THEY SUCK!

1. If you had an unlocked GSM phone, we would have provided you with service. You did not HAVE to purchase a phone to activate service with us. Ignorance of options does not mean you are being denied options.

2. Plans change. What a revelation. It happens. We need to constantly update our offers to remain competitive with everyone else, to make sure we remain profitible so we can continue to provide you with service at all. AWS was not profitible. AWS no longer exists. Deal with it.

3. Cingular has 52.5 million customers, not 41 million.

4. Cingular owns the same towers that were and are providing your service. They are being maintained & upgraded, and we are investing $1 billion in California, adding 730 cell sites in your state al...

You would've had to change your plan anyway, if I'm not mistaken. When I upgraded to a GSM phone, I had to get a GSM plan. Plans change throughtout the year, and more than likely, that plan you had wouldn't've been available now anyway.

They are honoring your contract. Read the fine print of upgrading. They can provide a new phone but it may require a rate plan change. This was the same with the Customer's First Promise that AT&T had at one point. Suck it up or switch carriers.

STOP BI*CHIN! the plan you are on is what us at&t/cingy reps called the "DURING THE BUYOUT JUST SO WE CAN KEEP YOU HAPPY PROMO GIVEAWAY PLAN"! AT&T WOULD HAVE GIVEN U FREE SEX IF U ASKED FOR IT AT THE TIME OF THE CINGULAR BUYOUT. THE ONLY WAY U WILL EVER SEE THAT HAPPEN IS IF CINGY BUYS OR MERGES WITH ANOTHER LARGE COMPANY OR IF T-MOBILE AND THE "GET MORE CREW" GET MORE COVERAGE AND TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES!! TILL THEN IF U GO TO VZW SAME PLANS!

NEXTEL'S OFFERIN $100.00 DEPOSITS (FOR BAD CREDIT) AND $39.99 800MIN PLAN(SIMULAR TO AT&T BUYOUT PLAN), BUT REMEMBER ITS ONLY A DURING THE BUYOUT OR MERGER THING! 🙂 😁

TILL THEN "BE SAFE BE COURTEOUS"!!!!! 😉

i'm not gonna read through all those answers, but the plan you got was not just a plan...it was a plan filled with promos. At the time, AWS was really trying to hold its customer base so it offered incredible incentives for customers to stay and customer to sign up. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Smae goes with the plan. I can't see how your signal would be affected since AWS had a roaming agreement with Cingular way before the merger and you were most likely using those towers when you signed up as well. Sounds liek ti could be a phone issue. Ebay has a ton of old AWS phones for decent prices, but be aware of a sellers feedback. Hell, I even have 3 old AWS phones and an extra AWS sim as well.

It wasn't just Cingular. ATT had agreements with T-Mobile so those are affected.
