BeachSlapped

Ok, so Cingular is going to relesase UMTS/HSPDA (in some markets) on Nov 1st. My question is. What 3G phones will Cingular release on that date? Anyone know?

Are you sure? 😕 I thought Cingy would be ready to roll out 3G AND release some phones at the same time.

Yes I am sure but the phones that are going to be released will be worth the one month wait.

the only 3G device currently lined up will be a PCMCIA card - the Sierra 775. there is no specific mention of any potential phones as of now.

I keep thinking there will be some phones out on Nov 1st. They will be out overnight (just like the ROKR) Oh well, a boy can dream; can't he?

probobly not right away. the only reason the ROKR was that way was because of Apple wanting to keep it hush-hush. if there were phones due out, we'd probobly see them on our price list or at least they would be on internal pre-launch announcements.

There's still 14 more days to go. Anything could happen. Let's all be optimistic! 😉

Lets try to face reality and accept the truth. No 3g phones till Christmas but Cingular will come out with a whole new lineup of phones that will be very good just in time for the holidays.

well. the v557, d307, etc are on the rebate forms... i doubt they will be for the 3g release, but they are there... (v557 is ptt)(d307 is more data oriented)

I think they'll stick with the pc cards for the first month or so, just to get the kinks out, then release a few new phones(specifically the new razr upgrade) if not by christmas, then deff by feb 1st.

Let there be no mistake, Cingular wants the new phones out before christmas, both the 557 and d307, as well as a few others. they're fortunate enough that the aircard works on the umts.
Unfortunatley, it doesnt look like all the new ohones will come out, and not many exciting ones to say the least. Aside from the new ipaq and razr (might make it, might not. keep the fingers crossed 😉 ), as far as we can tell, nothing groundbreaking. the v3x just barely cleared fcc and it was mid october. I hoped for that one the most but it looks like a no-go by xmas. maybe by feb-march

Cingular is runnin a little behind schedule on the new phones. actually, its quite a bit of the manufacturers delay for making phones in new corporate territory. just check the ipaq, 6102, etc. Its just tough for manufdacturers to establish new corporate agreements with companies they've never dealt with before. especially for brand new technology. Dont expect a massive tidal wave of new phones, but older ones are leaving and letting in new models. it started with the x427 and the c207 is now beginning its eol and i would imagine the same fate rests for a few others like the v180/220 (manuf probs), 551, e317, 3220(slow seller), z500a(manuf probs), a7110(slow seller), and perhaps the sx66 but it wont make a big difference if its there ...

uhhh...the 427 has been gone for a few weeks. the c207 announced its EOL today. the 3220 has been gone for a few weeks. the v180/220 have been EOL'd since september and are finally gone from our store. the 551 should be EOL'd by november and replaced by the 557 before december....

echo aside, you've hit the meaning. as i simply put the jist of it, i'm glad you could explain.
duh, the 427 has been gone for quite some time. the v180/220 have just lingered in stores because no reps want to sell it, even tho its at the end. the 3220 as well, everyone opts for the e317 or the new 6102. and i think everyone already knew about the 557 so it went without mention, and the z500 was replaced because of its high return and low purchase quantity because of its manuf probs. or we could read csp word for word and cop it out. honestly, there is more to eol's than just replacement. look at the 317. its been around for a long time and is still selling. it was on eol, but the phone orders came in for the remaining phones that ...

i still am. we have the old triband and quad band models still back on the shelf. there's even a $20 spiff on em but i'd rather keep my pay for the activation instead of have the service turned off cuz they hate their phones.
