i've heard that if u can supply your own compatible device, bring it into a store & they can set you up on a plan that wouldn't require a contract.. is this true or false?... perhaps somebody from sales could shed some light on this

It's true, you'll probably have to buy a SIM card and your plan wont have any promotional features such as free mobile to mobile. You can add it on for $9.99 more though. This may vary by market though.
