The RadioShack Corporation Selects Cingular Wireless and Sprint PCS
as Long-Term Wireless Partners
Agreements Strengthen RadioShack's Position in Wireless Industry

Fort Worth, Texas – July 31, 2005 – RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: RSH) today announced that it has entered into 10-year and 11-year agreements, respectively, with Cingular Wireless and Sprint PCS to be the company's long-term wireless providers in RadioShack stores nationwide. With this happening, Verizon is going to get a serious dent to their numbers. I don't think it's going to be very beneficial to Cingular though. It'll just pack on more disgruntled customers.

I agree. After working across the street from a Wal-Mart for the past two years, I think we need to bring the bumber of national retailers selling Cingular down, not up. The associates aren't very well trained in our policies and proceedures, so a lot of uninformed and sometimes severely misinformed people come into my store with problems caused by them.

This will definitely drive up the number of calls within the first thirty days of service, which I know is something Cingular was trying to have less of.

i agree with you on that. but there are "some" very compentant reps that work for national retailers. maybe with more influence the policy's will be a better enforced.

There are always good and bad ones, but I'm not blaming them. I have no idea what standard of training Cingular gives these national retailers. The companies may just stick an employee behind the counter and tell them to read off the pricetags to customers (wal-mart).

Radioshack is more competent since they actually make commission and will strive to know their product so they can sell better. I just hope we give them the tools to do so, but I don't expect it.

A lot of national retailers are paid on commission only. I know that the company i work for only pays their associates commission and that drives them to be more knowledgeable and more up to date on all of the industry. I think the problem lies with Cingular Corp because they have territory reps that don't bring their dealers up to date information often enough to keep them informed. Maybe if we focus on the consumer more often we would have less churn due to disgruntled customers. just my 2 cents 🙂 thanks

i think this will be a good thing for both companys. from what i read for cing this morning. cing is getting 3,000+ more locations because of radio shack. i'm sure sprint will be getting somewhere around the same.

I think RadioShack's website sells quite a few more providers than their stores because InPhonic is their activator... I could be wrong...

I'm not sure about Inphonic but that would make sense. Inphonic is a big seller of cell phones.

Some Radioshacks on the east coast sell Cingular.

I think that Verizon is going to suffer from this loss. Radioshack was one of Verizon's biggest resellers. I think this will really help Cingular.

I think it's good.

I remember when Radioshack bought Wireless Retail(outfit out of Sams club) and now we're SC Kiosks. Ever since last October, it's been nothing but a positive impact. Now, Radioshack is branching out like Sam's Club, Sprint Kiosks in the malls, branded stores, etc.

This is excellent news for cingy, as an employee of R.S. we are usually over 30-50% of verizons sales according to there reports from what i have gathered so this will be cingy's target to stay on top with this move coming.
I had just did the switch myself to see how cingy works in wisconsin.
So far i have not had any big problems yet on my side of cingys service but well see.

I am happy for the switch to have taken place That was big news from what i herd my boss actually called and woke me out of bed to tell me this when he herd i have cingular.
