this customer wasn't really rude or anything, but i HAVE to laugh

Young woman calls in, asking why we can charge 199.99 for the RAZR over the phone/net/store, when indirect dealers can charge 174.99. explained process on how indirect dealers can charge a different price as they are INDIRECT and not directly owned/operated by cingular. They cannot, however, migrate a business customer. She accepted my answer and proceeded to say " i just got a 200$ phone about 6 months ago and signed a new 2 yr contract, and i get really bored with phones, so you should give me that phone cheaper" and she was dead serious. I explained that you only get a certain amount of upgrades a year, and if she wanted this phone, we could even migrate her to cingular...

some customers apparently think that we give things away for no profit or gain whatsoever. with the full retail cost of the phone some dont realize how cheap the equipment really is.

At least she understood the difference between contract price and full price, she just didn't realize the phone cost so much or that the ads were for the contracted price (even though it says so on most ads). It's gotten better over time, but I've had many people whom it took quite a while just to grasp the contract / full price difference.

I understand where customers come from sometimes, but before I even worked with cell phones I understood how the free/contract concept worked. I was about 17 years old and remember paying 190$ for a pre paid nokia, and then, when I didn't use it for about 5 months, my phone number stopped working, I took it into the store where I got it and they advised me after a certain amount of time your phone deactivates itself if you don't use it, and you have to pay 75$ to re activate it again. anyways that's a bit off topic, but i didn't kick and scream and complain, i coughed up and paid it, because it made sense. Anyways at that point they explained to me I could get a better phone for FREE with a 2 year contract. I had no credit and I knew there ...

hahahah. i've had the same problem but vice versa. A man called in demanding to speak with another man because as he put it "a little girl" won't have as much authority to process his request as a man would. I explained to him that i have the same capabilities as other reps in my dept and if he wanted someone of another sex he would have to call back becasue I can't pick who I xfer to, it's automatic. He escalated because he didn't believe me, and the rez I called was a women. hahaha to HIM!
