Someone please explain to me, why US Cellular got ptt but we still don't have it...

Aren't we bigger than them? So shouldn't be at some point get it. I mean they keep saying soon and soon, but man soon isn't soon enough.. These smaller companies are gonna kick our butts.

I wish we can get on the ball.. I will be so happy than..

The reason a company as large as Cingular can't roll out services before everyone else is because they have their hands in more than one thing at a time and need to take extra time to make sure everything will run smoothly, because their reputation is in the public eye moreso than the smaller regional comopanies.

US Cellular has PTT before us because they use CDMA. CDMA is the same thing Sprint and Verizon use. Get the idea?

GSM has been going round and round about what technology is going to work efficiently and whose going to develop it. CDMA had the leg up on the PTT so it's nothing amazing that a smaller company has PTT before us.

If you have the time to post, you might want to look around these forums outside Cingular where it will explain to you everything I just told you in much more detail.

Just an opinion about PTT. I don't see how an every day person would get much use out of it, it seems a bit tacky. But I could see how many construction sites, or other busineses who have many employess situated in many locations and they need to talk to eachother constantly- is there any other group that this feature would really beneifit?

Farmers, families(if its the right price), EMS, ect... If you think about it, there a host people who could benifit from a PTT system that spans more than just the major cities and highways. I personaly can't wait to see what Cingular does for a PTT solution. Hopefully it will be real compition to us here at USCC, unlike nextel, sprint and verizion.

Have a wonderful day!

First of all, Nextel isn't CDMA. Nextel uses there own proprietary technology called Iden. Secondly, why are you guys harping on PTT so much? Obviously people DO care about it, and DO like the feature, because Nextel has built their whole business around it. If it was a useless feature, I think Nextel would have went bottom up. Think of it as mobile to mobile....but faster. Also, how is nextel not competition to you? Nextel pioneered this technology, and USCC is just a fly to swat for them. Sure Cingy MAY give nextel some competition, but I doubt it. Not unless cingy gets some phones that are ALOT more durable. Plus nextel has a great Phone repair program. What does Cingy have? Just the insurance, and XBM. You guys have a LONG ...

How could those people benefit from PTT and not just a regular phone? You still have to pull up the person's name on the menu and still have to connect. The only thing with PTT is you have to hold the button down while talking and you have to wait till the other person's done talking. I personally don't see the use for it. It made sense when it first came out, especially when you had unlimited PTT minutes. Now everyone has free M2M or In calling, so all calls to the same carrier are free.

Example: You are on a farm and working with a manure spreader. You and your six farm hands are all spread out along the line and you need to give commands to all six of them at the same time to insure problem free application of the fertalizer. Is it quicker to call each one, one at a time, or two way the whole lot at once?

Just something to think about.

Ahh, I didn't know you could get more than one people on that. I'm looking at Sprint stuff right now, and just read it. I guess it would make sense in that area. Other than that, is there any real benefit to PTT?

Ahh. I'm not really trying to put it down or anything. As long as I don't have to pay extra, and it helps business, I'm all for it. I just don't have much experience with it and was wondering if I'm missing anything.

What kind of buisness do you have? That would help to determine if its worth it to have PTT for it.

I can't even think of a word that states how stupid I think PTT really is. Walkie-talkies were a step above landlines because they were portable, but then we had cell phones. Why are we stepping backwards?

We should be making phones the size of hearing aids with microphones that pick up the vibrations of your vocal chords so you could whisper a conversation over the air and not disturb anyone, not carrying around star trek intercom badges. *beep beep* "Beam me up!"
