Towers, lots and lots of towers that we had roaming agreements with at&t anyways. now we have one of the largest calling areas of any other company. 50 million + customers can now call each other at no additional charge to the customer and without using their minutes. It was a smart move on both of the companies part.

One word....SPECTRUM!!!! The only way now to acquire certain portions of spectrum is by buying another company that already owns it...so...that's the major benefit.

We're still getting their money.
I've attempted to rationalize cancellation with customers who have only a few months left in their contract. Lowering the plan to $19.99 a month [multiply that by 4 and you've got $80 plus all those other lovely fees and taxes] versus the ever so popular $175 ETF fee. About $100 in comparison to $175? I've had a few customers who chose the latter. Wheres the logic in that?

alot pay the early termination fee becuase they want to port their number now.. and if you already activate a number with a company they won't let you port the number over.

that would be the only reason i can think of ....

good point, but as far as i know if a customer wants to activate new service but port a number in we assign them a temporary number until the port has completed and the account on the other carrier has to be active until the ports complete, at that time, it becomes cancelled.

Many many things such as:

-22 million new customers
-The potential for double the revenue
-Coverage in all top 100 U.S. markets
-25,300 new cell sites
-Thousands of new locations for retail presence
-Increased brand recognition
-The maximum amount of licensed spectrum in nearly all markets
-Six UMTS markets
-Bragging rights to the largest digital network, largest calling community and being "#1"
-New partnerships with phone manufacturers with access to exlusive phones
-The largest phone lineup
-Taking out the 3rd largest wireless carrier resulting in one less competitor

And the list could go on. By far the most valuable thing they acquired through buying AT&T was the spectrum portfolio. With the spectrum they have acquire ...

They're getting the business customers, but they're not necessarily providing them with the same benefits and discounts like ATTWS did. I've discussed this with a few business care reps and apparently alot of customers are coming back to the AWS side because of the discounts and agreements.
some sponsorships are being denied their discounts because of the merge due to the fact that didnt sign an agreement with Cingular are are just bound by whatever contractual agreements with the former ATTWireless.
