Western Cingular Coverage!!!!

SForsyth01

Jun 27, 2005, 1:11 PM
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

I just got back to PA from Phoenix, AZ and I can now start using my Cingular phone again. I had absolutely no coverage in the Phoenix area. I had to forward my Cingular phone to my VZW phone to have any type of cell phone usage. And VZW had full coverage.

Is Cingular planning on ever realizing that people do travel west??????

Sounds like a handset issue. I visit Phoenix most every spring and never have an issue.

Not a handset issue. 4 of us with Cingular phones all had problems. 4 different models and 2 different manufacturers too.

yah no he is right, it has nothing to so witht he phone itself
what it does have to do with is cingular has the att gsm and there own gsm network currently they are combing the networks and cingular isnt very strong in the west side... howeverafter they consolidate the works they will be.. there seesms to be some coverage issues with using the new sim cards on the " honestly older network" (non combined) the new sims cards are only reading 1 sides network not the other side... so if ya have a former att phone its only readingthe former att network and vise verca... that coverage will gain no worries

Shawn I could have told you we don't have great coverage out there. We are based here. We are working on extending our area but I can't tell you when it will be done.

I knew it wasn't great, but having dead spots in a major city (the fastest growing city in the US for that matter) is not something I was expecting.

But on a side note, after visiting the west, I think I am perfectly content in good old PA now.

Being from South Florida, I understand the evils of humidity. And hurricanes. And crazy cubans.

Unless you like instead

Earthquakes
Mudslides
HIGH TAXES
Illegals sucking funds dry
Wild fires
2 hour commutes of 5 miles
Clouds and overcast until afternoons on the beach
HIGH cost of living (not worth it)

and the list goes on

from a former San Diego resident of 13 years...Just moved from Las Vegas to Myrtle Beach...Vegas getting like LA too many people
But thanks to the Californians I cashed 1/4 mil equity out of a small house...built a larger one for cash on a lake 5 miles from the beach and banked a nice nest egg to boot.

Myrtle Beach is the new San Diego.......None of the above except some hum...

Have you ever bene out ther in the middle of summer??? I live in Arkansas where humidity can be terrible! I have lived in Phoenix as well, and I can tell you that the heat sucks just as bad there, just not in the same kind of way.

I completely agree with that statement. And until last week, I was of the thought that heat didn't matter if it was not humid. But I was dead WRONG!!!!

Our coverage isn't great over there at all, but I hope you powercycled your phone at least once while you were there. I doubt you'd be surprised how many problems that little action solves.

Tried it. That helped in most areas, but still didn't help on the site I spent most of my time (a newly built manufacturing facility). But part of my problem may simply be that up until 6 months ago, the site was vacant land. Now it is a produciton facility.

Where in Phoenix were you located? I have cousins and an aunt in Phoenix and a grandfather in Las Vegas, and all they ever use is their Cingular phones with no problems. I've had a lot of customers complain about Las Vegas coverage but he gets better signal in the middle of nowhere then I get in my driveway.

I'm not trying to defend Cingular, personally I hope the company crumbles and burns in hell, but I know people in these cities who have excellent coverage.

I'm assuming that Cingular is addressing this matter as it's been a thorn in the carrier's collective behind for quite some time.

I would hope so since Phoenix is the single fastest growing city in the entire country!!!!

It would be something that I would want to address if I was running a company.

Phoenix was for Real Estate last year. I am almost sure of it. At least the cost of Real Estate.

I could be wrong. They are the top 2 on the list. But Vegas may be #1. Still, my point is that cities growing that fast should be the focal points of companies like Cingular.

You would think. I used to live there and I only had a problem leaving the city, but I dont know where you were. It should be vastly expanded under the circumstances.

Im not sure about the Real Estate thing. I know that Phoenix and Vegas are the top one and two. Northwest Arkansas (where I am from) is #3. We get to hear alot about that.

I live in Southern California and I have horrible reception with Cingular. My friends who have Verizon and T-mobile have way better reception than me. I use to have AT&T wireless and my reception wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. After the merger my reception took a turn for the worse which I don't understand since we were supposedly getting more towers.
...
SForsyth01

Jun 28, 2005, 7:35 AM
It took a turn for the worse because when the merger occurred, T-Mobile ended the roaming agreements that they had with AT&T. Cingular cannot use the T-Mobile towers like AT&T could.

Are you sure you don't have GSM Gait technology? It was implemented in the east and not the west. And those phones won't get any reception.

Yes, I am sure I don't have GAIT technology. I have the RAZR. The last time I checked, that was all GSM. I also have the 6230. Also all GSM.

Wow, they really do have you guys programmed at Cingular. Let me give you a tip: Contrary to what Cingular management tells you, it is not the best policy to assume that the customer is dumb when it comes to cell phones.
